Dark red flames from the bonfire lick at the night sky and glowing embers float up in the air and blend in with the stars. I can feel its warmth heating my cheeks, probably making me look like a tomato.
Kira taps my shoulder and points toward the other side of the fire. Lily and Collin, her boyfriend of two months, kiss tentatively before pulling away looking sheepish. Kira and I laugh at the look of giddiness on her face. "So they finally did it." I sigh.
"It was bound to happen sooner or later. I mean those two have some serious chemistry." Kira replies to my observation.
"I still can't believe she said yes to him" Thane cuts in before I can say anything "I thought he had to much blue in his eyes for her."
I roll my eyes. "I asked her the same thing and you know what she said?" I mimic her voice as I repeat Lily's exact words to me "After closer inspection, they're actually more green than blue."
We all laugh at the high pitch in my voice.
Cyan stumbles toward us with a distant, glazed look in his eyes. I instantly know he's had a bit to much to drink.
He burst out laughing, wiping tears from his eyes as he looks back at the group of guys he was hanging out with before.
"Oh my god, Kira! You have to come and tell those guys" he points at the group over his shoulder "that joke you told me earlier!" Another fit of laughter and snorts rack his body.
She rolls her eyes "You told me that was the worst joke you've ever heard an hour ago."
"Well here's the thing, I was drinking a lot of beer" his beer spills all over his hand as he lifts it in the air "and all of a sudden I realised how hilarious it is!"
"You really mean that!" She says, completely sarcastic.
"Hell yeah!"
He pulls her up and drags her over to the giant group of drunk guys.
We sit in silence.
"I wonder what the joke was?" I state just to break the silence.
"Probably something to do with Shrek."
We both laugh at that."That girl's looking at you." I smile at Thane. "She's giving you the eyes." I say wiggling my eyebrows.
He smiles but doesn't move.
We sit awkwardly for a few seconds before I speak.
"Aren't you gonna go talk to her?"
He shakes his head "I'm cool here."
"Don't you think she's pretty?"
He stares at her before saying "Yeah, she's pretty."
I smile "Then go talk to her!"
"I'm fine Drea."
"No really, you should go. Don't let me hold you back."
His smile fades "I want to stay here."
I laugh sarcastically. "Riiiiiight!" I slap his shoulder.
"Just go Thane seriously, I'm fine."
His brow furrows and his brown eyes turn stormy. "Is it so impossible to believe that I just want to sit here with you!" He runs a hand through his black, spiky hair. "Believe it or not Drea, I actually like you! But if you want me to go that bad" he stands up and starts walking toward the pretty brunette "I'll leave!"
I stutter, but no words come out.I wake up to the feel of callused finger tips stroking my fringe out of my eyes. "Morning." I whisper my eyes still closed.
"You sure can sleep."
His voice sounds rough and groggy like he just woke up.
My eyes pop open and I'm greeted with Thane leaning over me holding a bruised apple. "It's been in the pack for a few days, but it should be okay." I take it from him without looking away from his face.
His hair is tousled and messy, falling in thick locks in his eyes.
"We should get going. It's getting late."
I nod as I take a giant bite from my apple, my dream replaying in my mind. What did he mean by "like?"
