We get there and Owen immediately takes off to talk to some pretty girls. To be honest I don't feel like being social. Instead I decide to set my towel out and listen to my iPod. A few minutes later a little redhead girl taps my shoulder. I pull out my earbuds to see what the little girl wants.
"Excuse me, could you please help me move this turtle nest?" She asks. "It's in the way of my sandcastle"
"Um..." I really don't know what to say.
"Tara! Away from the turtle nest! What did I tell you?" A voice calls close behind me. It's very deep and boyish. I kind of am attracted to voices like that. And what do you know? It is a teenage boy! He walks over to Tara and I.
"But..." She wines "I want my sandcastle built here!"
"Go play with your sister!" He says back. "Leave the nest alone." The little girl runs off listening to him. "Sorry about that. My sister can be quite picky where she puts her sand castles" Was he talking to me?
"No it's fine! She's adorable!" I reply looking up into his beautiful blue eyes and golden hair. He's so cute! "I used to do the same thing when I was her age!"
"Yeah. Little girls these days! She's almost five!" He chuckles. "You look like your not from around here. Are you visiting?"
"Actually I just moved here from Kansas."
"Cool. Welcome to California! I'm Matthew. But most call me Matt. What's your name?"
"O-livia. Yeah Olivia." I say
"I like that name. It's really pretty. Can I call you Liv?" I blush at that
"S-sure... So that's a sea turtle nest? I love turtles!"
"Yeah! I'm an animal rescuer. I work on this teenage team. Or SATS. That means Sea Animal Teen Savers. My goal, is to save that nest and watch over it."
"Cool. Sounds like fun!"
" Yeah! So are you going to school here then this year?"
"Yeah."
"What grade?"
"Freshman. I'm really nervous for high school."
"So your fourteen? I'm going to be a Sophomore this year. You'll love it here!"
"Great. That must mean you are fifteen!" I giggle "Well it's nice to meet you Matt! Maybe we could hang out sometime." I ask
"Mat! Mia is ruining my work!" Tara calls.
"I would love that! Well I better go... My sisters are calling for help on their sandcastle! Later Liv!" He calls running off. What a nice guy. And my first new friend. Maybe even crush...
I walk over to Owen, who seems to be flirting with two girls my age. He's also hanging with another guy who apparently is Kevin who looks about his age. Maybe I'll try talking to them. After all, I could use a girl friend too. Then again I might make a fool of myself... Well, here goes nothing!
"Hey guys!" I say smiling.
"Who are you?" The girl with pretty blonde hair asks. "Wait is this your sister you were talking about Owen?"
"Um yes..." He replies
"She doesn't look fourteen. More like twelve! She's so short! What's your name?" She looks at me and whispers into the girl next to hers ear. And they laugh.
"Um Olivia." I reply "What's yours?"
"I'm Kayla and this is Leah" she replies gesturing to the girl next to her
"Hi." Leah smiles. Her hair is pretty too. Just a light brown and a little wavy. She even looks good in a bikini!
They both do!
"Well Owen, we have to um... Go home now. Bye!" Kayla says and walks off with Leah. They look back at me and whisper a few things. Probably about me!
"So those are the girls you choose to hang out with?" I ask him
"What? They're nice..." He replies
"I don't think they liked me by the way they were acting!"
"I like you!" Kevin butts in. I realize he's still here! "You're pretty cute for fourteen!"
"Um thanks?" I mumble "Owen can I talk to you? Alone?"
"Sure. Let's head home. Later Kev!" He replies. And we head back home on our bikes not saying a word until we get home.
