Hayley's POV
It was about dinner time now. Josh made chicken and potatoes four us, Stevie, and Neil. Joey was having some chicken soup. Throughout the whole meal I tried to balance eating, and feeding him. In the end, we both ended up covered in his soup.
After dinner, Josh took Joey into the bathroom in the hall and gave him a bath, while I took a shower in our ensuite. After I got out, I brushed my teeth and hair then put on my pj's. I walked into our room and sat on the edge of the bed, running my fingers through my hair.
I heard the door to mine and Josh's room creek slightly, making me look up. I saw Stevie standing in her pink nightgown, looking at me with wide eyes.
"What's up jellybean?" I asked.
She moved further into the room, coming closer until she was right in front of me. She got up on the bed and sat next to me. I gently wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close. She looked up at me for a brief moment, before looking back down at her lap again.
"Mom, am I pretty?" She asked in a small voice.
I was beyond confused at her question, "Stevie, you're beautiful, why would you ask something like that?"
She looked back at me, tears in her eyes. I could physically feel my heart break.
"Today, at school, there were these girls who were making fun of me because I've never had a boyfriend, they told me I wasn't pretty enough to have one."
I brought her into my lap and embraced her as she cried into my chest. I even sniffled a few times. How could kids be so damn cruel? Why would their parents let them get away with making other people feeling like shit? It makes me sick!
I made Stevie look at me, I used my thumbs to wipe the tears from her cheeks. It hurt so much to see my jellybean so broken.
"Stevie, you are absolutely gorgeous, those girls have no idea what they're talking about. When someone loves you, it's not just because of your looks. Don't listen to what girls like that say, I guarantee you they're not gonna be anywhere near as far as you will be in a few years if they just keep relying on shallow beauty to get them through life."
Stevie looked up at me, a bright smile on her face.
"See? Look at that beautiful smile!" I exclaimed poking one of her dimples.
She giggled and wrapped her arms around my neck tightly. I hugged back just as tight. Since she's been growing up, Stevie and I have rarely cuddled like we used to, or hugged like this. It made me a little sad to think that in a couple years she won't even want to be seen with me at the mall, or the beach or anything. Why does she have to grow up so fast?
When she pulled away she kissed my cheek, "I love you, mom."
I smiled so much that I could feel my cheeks hurt, "I love you too, jellybean."
We shared one more hug before she scampered off to bed. After she left, Josh walked in, his t-shirt soaking wet. I giggled at him and he gave me a glare.
"I see Joey put up a fight tonight." I commented.
"You think?" He quipped back.
I just laughed again, but was quickly silenced when he removed his shirt. He was facing away from me, rifling through the closet for a clean shirt. I bit my lip as I stared at his muscular back, fading red lines still there from this morning. Oh yes, I was very lucky indeed.
He pulled a plain grey t-shirt on as he turned around. I brought my eyes away from him as quick as I could, but he still caught me and smirked.
"You checkin' me out, Farro?" He asked cockily.
"No!" I blushed as I tried to avoid eye contact with him.
I felt the bed sink next to me where he sat down. Soon I felt him put a finger under my chin, turning my head to face him and softly kissing my lips. When he pulled away he stared deeply into my eyes.
"I love you, H-bomb." He whispered.
I smiled as I replied back, "I love you too, Joshie."
He smiled and wrapped an arm around me and brought me into his chest. I wrapped my arm around his midsection and buried my face in his shoulder. I loved moments like these, where we just got to hold each other.
"I saw Stevie walk out of here, did you figure out what was wrong?" Josh asked.
I nodded, "yeah, it was just girl problems."
"Gross!" Josh said, disgusted.
I pulled away and smacked his chest, "not those kinds of girl problems, you ass!"
He chuckled and brought me back to him, laying down this time. He reached over and turned off the lamp on my nightstand, and tucked us into the covers. I snuggled into his chest as he wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead.
"Goodnight, Mrs.Farro." I heard Josh mumble.
I grinned to myself, "goodnight, Mr.Farro."
