"Please?" I beg Noah. We're at my Mom's house for dinner. We had my doctors appointment on Friday. I'm only six weeks.

"No." he says.

"Why not?" I whine.
"Because." he says.

"Because why?"

"You know why." he says.

"I want more."
"You have one!"

"I want three."

"Three more?" he asks.

"Two more."

"Anna, no." he shakes his head.

Everyone is watching us argue.

"Why not?" I shout at him, my eyes welling with tears.

"Our money is tied up and you know it." he says.

I start crying.

He sighs.

"Anna." he says.

I shove past him, snatching the keys off the coffee table on my way.

NOAH'S POV

She wants two more Saint Bernard's.

She's about to have a baby.

We can't get two more dogs.

I sigh and go after her.

I sprint after her and block the car door.

She's really crying now.

"Anna." I sigh. "Sweetie-"
"Fuck you. Go away. I'm going home."

"We're about to have a baby." I patiently remind her.

"I don't care, dammit! You have no reason to say no!"

"Anna, they're expensive."
"We can look for somewhere cheap." she snaps. "Get out of my way."

"No." I say. "Please don't get mad."

She slams her hands onto the hood of the volvo.
"Noah, I swear to fucking god, get out of my way."

I place my hand on her back.

"Please don't go." I whisper.

She rests her head on the hood.

"Just go away." she sniffles.

"Do you really want them that bad?" I sigh.
"Yes, Noah, I fucking do."

"I'm sorry." I whisper. "We just can't swing it right now. Don't leave me."

"Fuck you." she snarls.

She gets in the Volvo, starts the engine, and leaves, almost running my foot over in the process.

God, if she wasn't pregnant, I would be really upset right now.

But I know that's just the hormones talking.

I sigh and go in the house.

"Did she really leave?" Mr. Oates asks.
"Yes." I say.

"You seem calm." Dad says.

I shrug. "She'll be back. I'm going out, via my feet."

<><>

"Seriously?" Dad asks when I walk in the door around two hours later. "Noah,"

"Don't start."

"You can't let her do that to you. We all agreed, and-"
