I felt Valerie yank one of my earbuds out. "What?" I asked grouchily. "I have to stop at the gas station. Do you want anything?" She asked me. I thought about it for a minute. "How long until we get to the airport?" I asked her. She glanced at the clock on the stereo. "Well, their plane lands in-" "uh, he's bringing another person?" I asked. She didn't tell me about this. Just great. I thought. "Oh. I didn't tell you?" She pulled into the gas station. "Alex is bringing his friend, Ethan." She smiled before handing me 10 bucks. "Go get something to eat." She said with a smile. I rolled my eyes and got out of the car. Who can she just tell me that when we're halfway there? She usually does this. You know, like the wingman. The person you bring on a date for moral support. That's me. Growing up being Valerie's best friend was kind of a struggle. She was the prettiest girl in school. Me on the other hand, I was not.
I was a shy girl. Hell, I still am. I was always a tad overweight, My clothes were never in style, and my makeup skills were not good at all. Now that I'm a junior I've learned my ways of the world. I'm still not the skinniest, but I'm quite happy. My clothes are mostly in style. And my makeup skills are not-too-shabby. Either way, I was always the wingman. I thought I was going to be this time, but I'm not for once. This is a change. I'm surprised she hadn't told me earlier.

I walked into the gas station and grabbed an Arizona tea and a bag of chips. I purchased my items and walked out the door. I spotted Val pumping gas. I walked slowly to the car, seeing that she was on the phone. "We'll be there in fifteen minutes. Okay. Bye." She hung up. "Alex and Ethan's plane just landed." She put the gas pump back. "What are you just standing there for, let's go!" She smiled, getting into the car. I smiled and rolled my eyes. I got into the car as she turned on the radio. "Let's do this." She smiled, driving off.
