We got to a shopping center and drove past a small diner. "Let's go there." Valerie said. "As long as I get food I'm happy." I spoke, leaning against the window, glued to my phone. I looked over at Ethan, sitting back, popping his gum. I could tell he was as bored as I was.

Valerie parked the car and we all got out. I walked faster than everybody else. "Somebody's hungry." Valerie joked. I stopped when I reached the sidewalk and turned to face them. "Mama is hungry." I laughed. "You refer to yourself as 'Mama'?" Ethan asked. I laughed and rolled my eyes. "Mama does what mama wants." I said, playfully pushing him. "You're cute." He said, following close behind me. I smiled. "Yeah I bet Matthew does, too. Right, Lennon?" Valerie said. I sighed and nodded. "God, I love him. He's the best." I felt my cheeks heat up. I couldn't stop talking about him. I finally know what it's like to be in love.

In the diner, I was finishing up my hamburger and refreshing my Instagram feed. I glanced up and spotted Ethan sat across from me. Empty plate, tracing his finger around the rim of his glass. I looked down at my phone and locked it. I looked back up at Ethan.

Valerie and Alex were talking, and I figured they wanted some alone time.
"Psst. Ethan." I whispered. He looked up at me.
"Yeah?"
"There's a bookstore across the street. Wanna go?" I asked. He smiled and nodded.

I looked over at My best friend, and she looked back at me. I gave her a thumbs up and walked out with Ethan.
