Kaga pushed a strand of salt encrusted hair back out of her face while silently and simultaneously cursing whoever thought up of the name Alaska! The place was nothing more than a freezing shit hole and she wondered why her countrymen had worked so hard to take and hold some of its islands in the first place!!
A fresh CAP in place, she turned her attentions to the other ships, namely the battleship closest to her. "How are we doing Musashi?" She asked.
"I MUSASHI AM LOVING THIS!" Came the cheerful reply. Of course she was! Nothing like beating the enemy fleet into oblivion before shelling their shore installations for good measure until those died too.
The carrier looked through her planes towards the shore. It was hot, quick work the Japanese were doing this day and nearly all the batteries were silenced. Nearly because Kaga saw the telltale glint of one readying to fire. "Musashi, live battery!" She warned as it sent a round downrange. Musashi was pelted with shrapnel from the close call and she didn't like it.
"Motherfucker!" She spat, drawing on New Jersey's vocabulary. The other ships had noticed that she had taken to speaking more like the American as of late. As a ship drew much of her knowledge and experience from her crew, there was a seamen joke in there somewhere that Kaga did not want to touch with a ten-foot pole!
As the carrier watched, Musashi straightened her wrappings which had come slightly undone in the heavy winds, and glared at the shoreline. "Alright you want to play, let's play." She said in a quiet voice that did nothing to portray how pissed she was. The full broadside that followed guaranteed that not only no one on that hill survived but the hill itself was also a casualty.
Kaga exchanged a knowing look with Akagi as both carriers were thinking the exact same thing. Unsurprisingly, it was Tenryu who said it. She waggled her finger at Musashi. "Temper, temper." She teased.
Musashi immediately changed her tone, blushing madly as she turned on the cruiser. "Shut up! I am not like Wisky Imōto-san." She snapped.
Too late did she realize the implications of what she just said. Kaga raised an eyebrow and Akagi was grinning. "Ooh, Imōto-san now is it?" She purred.
Musashi blushed. "S-shut up! I didn't-" She stammered.
"Oh I think you did." Tenryu cut in and caught the look on the battleship's face. "Oh yes! You definitely did! So, when's the wedding?"
"There isn't one. I mean I haven't, that is I-" The more Musashi tried to explain herself, the more amused the rest of the fleet got. "SHUT UP!" She roared, her embarrassment fading into anger.
Akagi was still cackling however and she continued to do so despite Musashi's threats of shutting her up with Sanshiki shells. They all knew it was an empty threat anyways.

For one Admiral Williams, the day was spent pacing across the carpet of his office to the point where the fabric began to tear. Still, he couldn't stop. The Abyssals were making a run on California, even as their fleet in the Aleutians was being pummeled into oblivion. And he had very few shipgirls in the area who could stop them.
Washington had departed Bremerton yesterday, en route to rendezvous with the Taffies. She'd asked him for permission to leave the Straits, something her light duty status prevented her from doing and it was only because there were no other battleships available that he'd reluctantly allowed it. Plus, the Taffies would stop her from doing something stupid because they would likely do it themselves first. And New Jersey would have his head for it! Williams continued pacing.
The phone on his desk rang and he all but ran over to it, nearly falling over his desk in the process. As it was, papers scattered and he couldn't care less. "Williams." He greeted.
"Admiral." The voice on the other end was unfamiliar but it was clearly a shipgirl. A battleship judging by that strong tone. Her voice had a slight accent to it, a mix of New York and Californian with neither overpowering the other. Williams got the image in his head of a towering dirty blonde with eyes bluer than New Jersey's terrifying ice chips.
"Report." He growled. Seconds later found him fumbling for his chair before his legs gave out from under him as he received the most heavily mixed news he'd ever gotten in his life!
