Reeds parents were musicians and they traveled a lot due to there band. When they had Reed they knew what it would mean, that they wouldn't have time to take care of him if they were going to keep playing and traveling. And neither of them were willing to give up their career to raise a child they couldn't support. They brought him to a orphanage when he was barely 1 year old. As he grew up he was sent from foster family to foster family always ending up back at the orphanage he started at. After he was brought back to the orphanage at twelve he hadn't been giving a second glance by those wanting to adopt. He was getting to old for anyone to want to adopt him, being sixteen now.

At the orphanage he didn't have many friends and when he could manage to make any they would get adopted and he would never see them again. His best friend was a volunteer at the orphanage, her name was Julie. She volunteered there as well as ran a music program at the orphanage. This was another reason why she was his best friend, Reed was a natural musician and could play almost every instrument they had at the program. But out of the instruments his favorite was the flute. He found the sound it made soothing and peaceful. On bad days he would go to the music to calm him down. One of those bad days being that current one. Reed was once again being made fun of by the bullies at the public school he went to.

"Hey fag!" Josh yelled, who seemed to be the leader of the trio, to Reed as he walked down the sidewalk back to the orphanage wanting to get away to his flute so he could once again escape reality. The three boys caught up to him and Nick, the red head to Josh's right, knocked down the stack of school work and books Reed was carrying.

Reed quickly walked away from him and tried to get back to the orphanage fast leaving behind his school work and books, he couldn't care less about the items as long as he could make it out of this without getting hurt. Kyle, the brunette on Josh's left, ran in front of Reed and tripped him causing Reed to fall on his hands and knees. After he fell Josh kicked him in the stomach causing Reed to groan in pain laying on his side holding his stomach. Reed didn't fight back. He had tried it before, it didn't go very well. Besides there was three of them and one of him, he had no chance. Josh got on Reed and punched him several times almost breaking Reed's black glasses.

Reed was beat up and made fun of by these guys almost everyday, sometimes only a few times a week if he's lucky. They looted on whatever he had they found valuable which wasn't very much and left him with some bruises and a bloody nose. He didn't bother to inform anyone of there constant harassment because he didn't want to make it a big deal.

He slowly got up and gathered his things. He walked to the orphanage holding his nose trying not to get blood on his schoolwork. He made it there and found his room, dropping his stuff on the floor behind the door then grabbed the tissues off his night stand and looked into a mirror cleaning up the blood that seemed to have stopped finally. After he cleaned up he made his way to the music room towards his flute that was on a chair, closest to the window. He sat down and started playing a simple melody. Reed closed his blue eyes and visited his imagination world where his life is normal with a mom and a dad and where bullies don't exist. When he opened his eyes he saw that time had passed quickly and it was getting dark outside. He looked at the clock above the door to the room and read that it was 10:18 pm. He had been playing for hours. He decided to head to his room and rest because it was after all a school night. That's when he saw Julie enter the music room, he lowered his flute and looked out the window and brushed his blonde hair over his eyes with his fingers trying to hide his face so she wouldn't see the bruises. But she had caught a glimpse of his face before he could look away. He heard quick clicks of heels walking towards him and a hand grab his chin and turn his head so he was directly facing her. Julie was kind lady, about 5'6 with dark brown wavy hair and jade green eyes. She was three years older than Reed, about 19. She wore a usual black turtle neck and blue jeans. She saw my bruises and her eyes filled with anger and sadness.
