"Goodbye ma!" I called to my mother from the care my friends and I were in. We had been planning this trip for weeks. My friends Cassy and Jon had picked a great place maybe an hour or two away from my house to go camping, and with the assignment I had been given in college that Friday it was the perfect time to go.
"It's right next to this huge pond and the canons will be awesome!" Jon said as he took a right out of town. I smiled excitedly as I pulled some headphones on to listen to music on the way there. I clicked shuffled and some punk rock music began to play. I pulled my backpack off the floor of the car and pulled out my notebook and video camera. I tossed the camera to Cassy who was in the back seat.
"Ya think we're gonna get a good grade on this project?" She asked me nervously from the backseat of the car.
"Yeah we are!" I replied turning to her with a grin. She gave me a reassured smile.
"And we're gonna have hella fun! I brought some snacks, drinks, and firework stuff so it'll be a night to remember!" Jon added. I shook my head with a smile going back to my work. I continued writing the beginning of a story I was working on in my notebook. I was working to become a journalist and maybe an Author. The whole trip was mostly for a project for class Cassy and I had been assigned at our college. Jon was a close friend of ours and was mostly coming for fun.
Half hour had passed quickly, it was around 2:37, and I was on page five of my story. I noticed something out of the corner of my eye descending onto my paper from a web- I screamed like a little girl and tried swatting the arachnid away with my notebook. In the commotion Jon almost swerved off the road.
"Dude! What the hell are you doing?!" He yelled pushing his sunglasses back up and and pulling his blonde hair out of his face.
"Are you okay?!" Cassy asked in a panicked tone with concern. I was breathing heavily and looking around the car paranoid, for the spider had disappeared and could be anywhere.
"I-I'm fine... there was a spider..."
"Oh my god bro, you're afraid of spiders?" He laughed and hit my shoulder in a playful way. "You're such a fucking pussy man." I glared at him.
"They are pretty creepy though." Cassy said.
"Nu-uh, I used to play with spiders all the time when I was a kid. They never bothered me." Jon replied.
"Whatever man." I pulled my headphones back on which had fallen off during the incident. I went back to my story and spent the rest of the ride working on the characters personalities.
Jon took a slow turn and stopped the car. He turned the key and pulled it out shutting the car off.
"Guys we're here!" Jon called excitedly to Cassy and I. Jon jumped out of the car with a grin. I finished the sentence I was writing and pulled my headphones off. I looked to the backseat, it had been unusually quiet even for Cassy. When I turned to look I saw Cassy asleep in the back seat snuggling a pillow. I grinned, she was adorable.
I opened my door and stepped out. The area around us, as the two had promised, was beautiful. It was like a canyon with a pond like thing at one end of it. Jon walked around the car to where I stood and looked out on the scenery with me. He pat my back and sighed, "Gorgeous isn't it?" Jon turned to the back door of the car and yanked it open. "Wakey wakey sleeping beauty!" Jon shouted to Cassy. She her pillow at him with a groan. He dodged it and it landed on the sandy ground.
"You ass, you interrupted my dream..." She groaned and clicked her seat belt letting it slide off as she rubbed her eyes with a yawn. Jon laughed and walked to the back of the car.
