Year 847
After being dismissed by the instructor, who Lucas learned was Keith Shadis, Lucas and Kai made their way to the male barracks. Once inside they noticed how big the building actually was. There was twelve rooms each having the capacity for four people. Many trainees were rushing about, trying to claim a bed for themselves. Kai and Lucas entered the first vacant room, two sets of bunk beds and four small chests.
"I call top bunk!" Lucas exclaimed, tossing his bag into a chest and hoisting himself up onto the bed. Kai rolled his eyes.
"Whatever, I guess I'll take bottom. I'm just happy we have actual beds." He put his stuff into the chest beside Lucas's, then sat on his own bed, pushing Lucas's dangling legs out of the way.
"Looks like we're gonna be living with two other people as well." Lucas said as he kicked off his boots and jumped down to the floor. "Either that or we both get two beds." Footsteps from outside the door, interrupting Lucas.
"Yeah, this place is as good as any." A muffled voice came from the other side. The door opened reveling none other than Eren and Armin.
"Oh, it's you two." Eren said in a surprised voice. Tossing his belongings to the side. "Never would have guessed you'd be here." Armin waved to Kai and Lucas, and set his stuff down on the remaining bed.
"Can't say I'm surprised to see you here Eren. Considering all that's happened." Kai retorted "It looks likes we're all sharing this room."
"Looks like we're going to need to get to know each other better." Armin shyly cut in.
"Well we can do that later!" Lucas stated, walking to the door with folded clothes in his hand. "I'm hungry, I don't wanna wait in line for dinner and the longer I take to change the less food there'll be for me."

After changing, Lucas stepped out into the evening sunlight, nearly getting run over by Sasha. He made his way over to the mess hall, and noticed how long the line was already. Sighing, he sat on a bench on the porch of the building. Not long after he was joined by Kai, Eren, Armin, Connie and a few other recruits. They turned their heads to the sound of agonized panting. Sasha was still going, looking more tired than ever.
"Whoa, he still has potato girl running." Connie said, not looking very surprised.
"Wow. She's been going at it for five hours straight now." Eren commented. "Still, the look on her face when Shadis told her to run until she was almost dead was nothing compared to the anguished look the moment he told her she doesn't get to eat today."
"Dauper..." Connie scratched his head. "If memory serves, that's a hunting village with a small population deep in the mountains."
"I didn't know that villages like that still existed." A black haired boy voiced. Eren pointed at a wagon leaving the compound.
"What's that?"
"They're dropouts. They asked to work in the fields instead." A petite girl with black hair tied in loose twin pig tails.
"Oh..." Lucas stammered. Kai leaned back against the wall. Armin voiced everyone's thoughts.
"Whoa. It's only the first day too..."
"That's just how it is." If you can't cut it here, you have to leave." Everyone turned to look at Eren. "I can't believe anyone would want to pick up rocks and pull plants again."
"Come to think of it." The black haired boy said. Motioning towards Armin, Eren, Lucas and Kai. "We haven't heard anything about where you're from." Eren put his arms around the other three.
