Lily and I agreed to meet at my house in about a hour to get ready. So I wasn’t surprised when my doorbell ringed two hours early.

“Hey girl!”  She greeted as she walked in with 2 large bags. One I’m guessing is her make up and the other jewelry.

“Hello.” I say with a slightly confused tone. “What’s up with all the stuff?” I ask.

“Duh, silly. Things to make us look absolutely stunning tonight.” She sings while she dumps all the contents on the floor.

“Hey, I just got done cleaning up in here!” I yell.

“So what? If the boys want to go back to our place, we'll just rent an apartment.” I laugh at her joke, but sure, she can be calm. She’s not meeting a complete stranger.

Lily pulls out one of my kitchen chairs and drags it to the living room. She smacks the chair motioning for me to sit down.  I slowly walk over to take a seat. Let's just say I don’t trust Lily to do my hair.

I sit down making sure to take my time. Behind me, I hear Lily plugging up her extreme curling irons. Don’t ask me how I know. I felt Lily brushing my hair as she leans down to whisper in my ear.

“Are you ready to get beautified?” I gulp.

Its seems like hours until she’s done, and the whole time, I was just moving around in my seat.

“Will you be still already? I’m done now.” Lily says obviously frustrated.

She hands me her hand mirror and I gasp. My hair looks great with thick tight curls going all around my head. I look like a model.

It’s another hour before Lily and I are both dressed, with our makeup done and ready to go.  I take one last at the mirror before I follow Lily out he door.

We decide to ride in her car since, well, lets face it. Mine sucks. We arrive a fancy restaurant called La Reve. The outside was breathtaking crystals hanging down from the roof in a orderly sequence so that it spelled the name of the restaurant and the walls made out of black marble. It was just to much to take in.

“Are you gonna sit there with your mouth hanging open, or are you gonna get out of the car?" I hear Lily tease.

I gently hit her before getting out of the car. Lily hands the keys to this boy then grabs my hand and start pulling me into the restaurant.

Lily winks at the bouncer and he steps aside to lets us in. As soon as we walk in I immediately see our dates. Since one of them is waving like a mad man trying to get Lily’s attention. She spots him and leads me over to the table.

The two men stand up when Lily and I arrive at the table.  The first one was tall with black hair slicked back, and brown eyes with slightly pale skin. He had a grey suit on. While the other one shorter than the first one and had green eyes brown hair. His skin was tan, just like Lily's and he had on a black suit on. They both didn’t look a day over 30.

“Hi” Lily says to the tall one that I’m guessing is not her boyfriend.

“This is my friend Ammara, your date this evening.”

“Nice to meet you my, name is Nathan”. He grabs my hand and I expect him to kiss it but instead he shakes it with little interest .  I brush it off and look towards Lily and her man who I have yet to meet already caressing each other.

“Uh hum!” I clear my throat and they both stop.

“And who might this be?”

“Oh how could I forget?” Lily jumps up. “This is my boyfriend Rick Sanders.” she gestures towards the short one but about her same height. He nods his head to acknowledge me and I do the same.

“Well, why we all don’t take our seats.” Lily expresses just a little too excited.

“Actually I would like to speak to Rick alone for a minute.” Nathan says. Rick gives him a questioning look but kisses Lily on the cheek and follows him to the back.

“Well isn't he everything you thought he would be?” she beamed.

“Yes and more.” I added.

“Lily will you excuse me? I need to go make a phone call” I give her an apologetic look.

“Sure girl, hurry back”. I nod my head and go off to the back. I pass a couple of doors till I hear whispering voices that sound just like Nathan and Rick. I decide to be a little nosey and listen in.

“She's fat man. And I don’t date big girls.”

“Come on, its only for tonight she not even that big.”

“You promised me a beautiful girl, not Godzilla.”

I hear chuckling “Now you know she’s not that bad.”

“Doesn’t matter. I refuse to be seen in public with her.”

I withdraw my ear from the door.  That’s all I needed to hear for my eyes to start watering. I start walking towards the back, passing random doors til I get to the one I’m looking for, the exit.

I push the door open and let the cool breeze hit my fresh tears. I walk in front of the building waiting for a taxi to past by, wishing I could be skinny and perfect like the other women, like Lily. But I’m not. I’m just me. Fat old Ammara.

I see a taxi coming up and I start waving my hand back and forth. The taxi stops and I hop in.

“Where to?” the taxi driver asks.

“Anywhere but here.” I whisper. The taxi driver shrugs his shoulders and begins driving.
