Chapter 5 - The Entrance
*Edited*
Wilfred's POV
"You look splendid tonight, your highness," Andrew complimented again and again as I adjusted my suit.
"Thank you, Andrew. You're not too bad yourself," I said, hoping that it would stop him from saying anything more.
"No, your highness, I'm nothing compared to you," Andrew said, but still smiled like an idiot to himself.
"Andrew, aren't you forgetting something?" I reminded him just as he was going to open his mouth.
"Of course not, your highness. Please excuse me while I attend to my duties," he said, bowing deeply before leaving the room.
I cleared my throat as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I must say, I look pretty good. I wonder what Victoria would think about me after she met me...
What was I thinking? I have to stop.
Soon, I found myself leaving my room to the entrance to await the arrival of my partner for the night.
What's taking them so long? I thought while I paced back and forth.
I never waited for anyone, and only ever had others wait for me. When Andrew got back, he was going to get it from me...
"I'm sorry for the wait, your highness," I heard Andrew's voice from the back.
"You're getting really bold now, Andrew. Making me wait for so lo-" I trailed off at the sight in front of me.
Victoria came walking down the steps of the palace is a turquoise gown and a pearl white corset that showed her perfect figure. Crystals were sewn on her gown in a floral pattern, and they shone in the moonlight, adding to her already stunning beauty. The train of her gown completed her look, making her appear ever so elegant and noble. Her face remained so perfect, with her hair being pulled back into a neat bun, but leaving strands to fall out and hang at the sides of her face to emphasize every single curve of her face.
She looked so magnificent that I couldn't help but stare. She bowed slightly when she saw me, and I must say, how often do you find such a beautiful woman with such manners?
"Sorry for making you wait, your highness. The fault lies with me as my hair wouldn't stay in place. Therefore, please spare sir Andrew the scolding," Victoria said, surprising me, as I was so mesmerized by her beauty.
I thought for a moment, before realizing that she was pleading for forgiveness for Andrew.
I cleared my throat, finally looking away from her, and said, "You heard that, Andrew? A lady is helping you plead for forgiveness."
"Oh! Lady Victoria, you didn't have to do that! I..." Andrew flustered, at a loss for words.
I chuckled at the sight, only to see Victoria smile ever so gently at Andrew.
Hey, why is she looking at him and not me?
I deliberately cleared my throat loud enough to catch both of their attention.
"Get onto the carriage. We have a celebration to attend."
Victoria's POV
We arrived at the clock tower after a rather tense, silent ride in the carriage, with Prince Wilfred constantly sneaking peeks at Andrew and I with a stare that could kill. I couldn't understand why he looked at us like that, but I tried to ignore it. Once, we made eye contact and I tried to smile, but he soon gave me a frown and looked away.
Did I do something wrong?
We stood in front of the clock tower side by side. As I looked up at the tower, I suddenly felt a wave of fear sent down my spine.
"Nervous?" Prince Wilfred said, looking at me with his grey eyes.
They were unusually warm, compared to the cold gaze that he normally had and it was rather comforting...
"Y-yeah," I answered him, realizing that my voice was shaky.
He offered me his hand and I accepted, interlocking our arms together.
"Don't worry, I'm here with you," he patted my hand and smiled at me, the smile on his handsome face made me go weak in the knees, but I smiled back at him, hoping to reassure him that I was strong.
"I'll do my best," I said as I looked forward at the entrance of the clock tower.
Prince Wilfred chuckled before saying, "You should relax. It is a celebration after all. Just watch your posture when you're in there, and stay close to me at all times."
"Yes, your highness," I heeded his advice.
"By the way, you look amazing today," he mumbled, just audible for me and not Andrew, who was standing a little too close.
"You're too kind, your highness," I answered him, and thanking the night sky that helped to hide the blush on my face.
"You too look stunning, your highness," I said in return.
"Thank you, my lady," he said, nodding slightly at me before continuing, "Ready?"
I took in a deep breath and held my head high before I nodded.
"Here we go," he said, and we both took off to enter the ballroom of the clock tower.
