THE METALLIC SCENT of Egghead Island's Labophase clung to their noses as the Straw Hats cautiously stepped onto the escalator, its slow whirring hum beneath their feet echoing like a heartbeat in the cavernous lab. Kamaki's crimson eyes scanned every corner, her long silver hair catching the fluorescent light as though it carried its own glint.
Even in the face of unknown technology, her expression remained unreadable—but there was a spark of curiosity there, the same curiosity that had led her into this strange world in the first place.
"Woah... check out this place!" Luffy bounced along the moving stairs, unable to contain his excitement. "An escalator? This is awesome!"
Kamaki tilted her head, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Careful there, luffy. Not everything shiny is safe."
Chopper looked between them nervously, his small hooves fidgeting with the straps of his bag. "I-I wonder what kind of experiments they do here... It's huge..."
Jinbei's calm presence kept the group grounded. "Stay alert. This island may look benign, but its defenses could be lethal."
As the Straw Hats marveled at the lab, Lilith's explanation echoed through the speakers, her voice a melodic guide through the mechanical maze. The island's energy, she said, was driven by fire—a power both destructive and beautiful, coursing invisibly through the metal veins of the Labophase. Kamaki's eyes glimmered with understanding, sensing the faint heat signatures the speaker couldn't describe, a prelude to the battle they hadn't yet faced.
But no sooner had they wandered further than the group lost sight of Lilith entirely. A series of mechanical doors slid open before them, guided by Edison's precise directions over the speaker system. It was there, in the dimly lit chamber, that they first came face-to-face with S-Shark. The monstrous cyborg loomed like a distorted reflection of the sea itself: his Lunarian-Fish-Man physique enhanced by mechanical augmentations, eyes glinting with predatory calculation.
"Jinbei..." Kamaki muttered under her breath, instinctively activating a shimmer of her Infinity-like ability, a thin but perceptible field of space between her and the nearest laser emitter. "He's strong. And fast."
S-Shark's attack came like a tidal wave, a barrage of lasers mixed with precise Fish-Man Karate strikes that could have split stone. Kamaki moved like liquid silver, weaving through the deadly currents, her Haki enhancing her perception as she intercepted a sweep aimed at Chopper.
"Kamaki!" Jinbei's voice boomed, pushing her out of the way of a crashing fin-augmented mechanical strike.
"Don't worry about me," she replied, her voice calm, almost playful, as if the chaos around them were a dance she'd practiced her entire life. "You focus on him. I'll... redirect the fire."
