I stared out the window in utter boredom. The bus had been rumbling along these twisty, worn roads for a while now, and the countryside view hadn't really changed. I was the only one on the bus. Just my luck that I had to live the farthest from the school.
I suppose I should be honoured and all. I mean, Mythix Academy doesn't give a seat to just anyone. No, you had to be important and powerful to get in. And I happened to be both.
Adrianna Somers. That's my name. The Somers family is extremely well known in the Mythical Community. We are the descendants of Zeus himself after all. Yeah that's right. I'm a descendant of the King of Gods. Trust me, it takes a while to get used to the fact.
Of course, my brother, Callum, had no problems whatsoever there. As the older sibling, this was his second year at Mythix, and with his blonde hair and greyish blue eyes, not to mention charismatic personality, it wasn't hard to believe that he had royal blood. And he knew that.
I, on the other hand, look almost nothing like my brother. Sure, we both have the same aristocratic features, but that was where the similarities ended. While my brother was quite tanned, I tend to be naturally pale. I have dark brown hair and bright, sky blue eyes with extremely tiny grey specks. You couldn't even see the grey unless you looked really closely.
I suppose I could be considered attractive, but I honestly believe that I am pretty average. I'm also really shy, and get pretty nervous when talking to people. So I am most certainly different from my brother. But as my mother has always said, my differences show that I am my own person.
Brushing my bangs to the side, I resisted the urge to throw myself out the window. The bus had honestly been going for so long, that I was beginning to get sick of it. But just as I had decided to get up and ask the driver to stop, the bus ambled to a halt at the side of the road. The doors slid open and five people hopped on.
The first two were boys. One of them seemed to be a good bit older than me, but the other looked only a year or two older. They both had black hair, but the older one had his hair neatly swept back, while the younger one had his spiked up. The older one had bright, dark green eyes, while the other one had deep, frighteningly red eyes. They were both quite handsome when it came to their looks, and seemed to be chatting animatedly at something.
The two boys were followed by three girls. Two of them looked almost identical with their long blonde hair, light green eyes and beautiful appearances, and were talking to a shorter, more petite-looking girl that had short black hair and sparkling grass-green eyes.
The two boys walked straight past me, while the two identical blondes sat up front. The younger girl, however, stopped near me with an uncertain look on her face.
"Um, excuse me? Could I sit here?" she asked hesitantly, nodding at the seat next to me.
"Oh, uh, sure!" I removed my bag from the seat and dropped it next to my feet.
The girl smiled and stashed her small suitcase in one of the compartments above, and sat down, placing her rucksack on her lap.
"So, um, my name's Kaylee Reynolds. And I'm a First Year!" the girl held out her hand.
"Hello. I'm Adrianna Somers. I'm a First Year too. I'm guessing that you're seventeen then?" I shook her hand with a smile.
"Oh uh, no actually. I'm still sixteen, but I'll be turning seventeen in a few days," Kaylee grinned sheepishly as her pale cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Hey no worries! I'll be turning seventeen in a few days too! When's your birthday?" I grinned back.
"The thirteenth of September."
