Chapter 3: Moving On

~One Month Later~

I never thought that there would be a day when I would have such a big destiny. Now, a whole world lies at my feet, under my total control. No matter what I do, what I write, I always have to keep thinking of the happy endings. My ideas are spread out through my drawing and my writing, letting my magic out through my hobbies, but what if, what if one day that magic escapes straight from my thoughts. Will all my thoughts come to life in my own dimension? If so, what will happen to that world? And if that world is destroyed, what then?

All these thoughts and questions kept running through my head, keeping me from sleeping. I looked up toward the sky, the sky that was always there. If there was one example, anything that you could use to explain how things always stay the same, the sky would be it. I reached my hand out as if to grab the sun and closed my fist, pretending I was crushing it, the light flickering through my fingertips. The non- realistic things are what make me, well me, and I guess there’s one person who likes me, whatever the reason.

As if he could read my thoughts, Ivan was now looming over me, directly in my line of sight. “Skipping again?”

I jolted upward, putting my hands together as I pleaded to him. “I’m just really tired. Please, Ivan?”

He sighed. “I can’t say no to you, you know that.”

I smiled. “I’m grateful for that.”

He eased himself toward the ground, sitting right beside me. I nervously messed with the frayed end of my shirt sleeves, occasionally glancing over at him. He seemed to just be fine but I didn’t want the silence to drag on because of the awkwardness. I had to bring something up, just so I can stop worrying.

“So, I got an A on my math test today.” I said, remembering.

He was smiling now. “I knew you had it in you.”

I leaned back on my hands. “I had a good teacher.”

After the time he kissed me, we continued to have our study sessions as usual, two times during the school week and during the weekends. For four out of the seven days he tutored me on a barrage of subjects and told me a little bit more about my fantasy world. Ever since then, my grades have been gradually rising and people have started to actually talk to me. Just about every day now someone asks me how I’ve been or says “it’s good to see you, Sam.” Pretty soon I’m going to be able to make new friends, at least I hope.

I looked over at Ivan, who had a worried look on his face. Also, since then, Ivan hasn’t made a move. I was a little awkward at first at the study sessions after that, thinking he was going to kiss me again but he never did. Somehow I feel like I had imagined it all in my head but there was no way that could be imaginary. He was right, I have not forgotten. I would always remember that day.

Ivan looked toward the hands in his lap. “Sam?”
