Chapter One: On The Other Side

My mind was filled with so many questions but I had to wait until he told me all the answers before I asked them. He was apparently the prince of this land. Everything was so confusing and I wasn’t sure about anything. I only could sit and listen and hope he had a good explanation for all of this.

“You are the creator of this land, Sam.”

“I’m a what now?”

I heard him sigh a little as he walked forward from his throne. He placed a firm hand on my shoulder. As I thought, he definitely was strong. Stronger than he even looked. He must be great at sports.

“Your drawings, they’re like magic. That’s why everything looks familiar to you. You‘ve drawn all this before.” he explained, interrupting my thoughts.

“That’s ridiculous!”

“I’m serious Sam!”

He really wasn’t kidding. I sighed and decided to listen. I wasn’t in the position to be telling him he was wrong. I didn’t have any answers.

“Ok but how is that possible?” I asked in return.

“You must have some sort of magic within you.” he continued, pointing to my heart.

My face flushed a little as I turned my face toward the ground. This just didn’t seem real. This was like saying that I was some kind of warlock. Just one that can draw magic. What good will that do me in real life?

“So if I do have magic, why does it only work here? Why doesn’t it appear in the real world?”

“Because magic doesn’t exist in the world we came from. It only works here. Your magic was so powerful it created a whole new universe. A universe that acts on it’s own,” he paused to look me in the eye, “A universe that can only be saved by you.”

So the universe needed saving? How was I supposed to save a world when I just learned of my abilities? This was all so overwhelming. This couldn’t be real. I had to be dreaming.

I had fought for so long to prove that magic did exist. That the things that were not possible were somehow possible. Now that I had found it, everything felt too good to be true. This can’t really be a world I created.

I pinched my skin and closed my eyes. I opened them to realize I had not moved from this medieval fantasy land. It wasn’t a dream. I was really here, in a land filled with magic. I had magic!

“Ivan, how long have you known this?” I seemed to ask, curious.

“I put all the pieces together when I saw your drawings just a few moments ago. I wasn’t sure of all this until now. You’re the savior we have all been waiting on.”

Wow.

He made me seem so important. I had never thought of myself as anything more than a rebel that hated school. I had no other talents besides my drawings. Now I was supposed to save a whole universe with them? I guess I could try.
