Chapter one

Before the infection...

"They will come one day" Bud says with a slight indifference in his voice as the two play, "Who?" Don asks with the same indifference In his voice, "The Sabo Donny the Sabo will come", "Sabo....Bud are you feeling okay why would Sabo come here, Bud she is just a little girl and a crazy one at that". "That is not what I mean Don" he cuts in as he pauses the game "she talked about an infection of some sort she talked about something called Novocane and given the way the world has been running it is very likely... and I don't know what else to call it so I am going with the Sabo" "so your calling this 'idea' Sabo hmm... why are you still stuck on what she said though Bud it was weeks ago and yet again she is crazy" as he tires to confront his friend Bud gets up and stands in front of him "it is just as understandable as our group I mean we started it for in case something like that ever happened and it's just us right now... Why don't we invite Sabo", "We could... but she doesn't seem to be the type of person we are looking for let alone the type of person that would want to join". But she was right the world did change.

Present Day Year 2031, 12 years since the shroud came

The rain came down so much that it was hard for anyone to see outside let alone hear what the other was saying, but none the less the Dark Hearts continue. "Novacane has been affecting us, the Sabo have been taking our friends and loved ones for years, it's time for the dark hears to rid the world of this pestilence that we call Novacane even if it takes the rest of our lives and the lives of those to come, we will be rid of it one day". Don says with as much determination as he can muster to convince a small girl the truth, that this is the only chance for survival. "Join us and we will train you to fight the Sabo to the best of our abilities, if you're not a fighter we will find something for you.. but we need to stick together as the last of the human race. Because I will not go down without a fight and neither will you". When Don said that he looked around the room and what they had achieved so far and for the ones paying attention they could see a faint smile that disappeared quick.

"Do you still use that line Don "Hayle asks as she sharpened her machete with a rock she found. "Well it has a record of working why wouldn't he, I mean he said the same thing to all of us and it worked" said Tim as he sits on the couch reading a book. "Yeah but it's not like any of us needed that much convincing" She replies as Kota walks in the door. "You certainly did you were going to try and kill us, and we know how that would have turned out" says Don with an expression on his face that says 'you would have been dead in a minute and you know it', "haha I know, I know but I didn't now did I" , "Cuz you were afraid of our mad skills" Kota says "our mad skills bud you could barely shoot a gun when Ant found you" said Don as Condescendingly as he could. The room seemed to lighten a bit after that.

"So are you going to go kill all the Sabo by yourself... and get killed in the process". The girl thought about it for a while "i'll stay for a while I have no where else to be"," ain't that the truth" "welcome back Bud I didn't know you were awake yet, this is" he gestures to the girl "oh i'm Ang-" but he leaves into another hallway before she finishes " And that was Ant he is Don's little brother" Says Tim "yeah introductions can wait till later what we need to do now is to start your survival test Ang" Don says bringing Ang to the practice room.

"Ang is the first that's been found in six years and she can't be very old, makes you wonder how she lasted this long" Kota says as his mouth is full of chips" makes you wonder how badass she is" Tim replies laughing. "Makes you wonder why she decided to be found just now" Hayle said not looking up and the two looked at her and said in unison "decided to be found?" well you weren't there Kota so understand your confusion but Tim you saw her she was on top of a very tall building and she had a fire going that means: one she could see us from a distance she could see In every direction for miles but she was in the open, and two a fire is a beacon everyone knows that. The Sabo tend not to notice them, but that might have to do with their eyesight I'm not sure yet but, if she could see us, and considering how slow the process of transformation can be she would have no idea if one of us was infected, she told us to come find her"." Are you saying that is a bad thing" "no, I am saying it's....interesting"
