I look up and see a boy. His hazel eyes look down at me waiting for a response.
"Um, it's nothing." What the hell Laura, of course it's nothing. That's why you're crying, isn't it?
"You sure? Because your red, puffy eyes and tear stained cheeks say other wise." The boy replies, taking a step forward.
"Why do you care anyway! I don't even know who you are!" I snap back. When did I become so mean?
"Well I thought maybe you'd want someone by your side but I see now that you don't." He turns around and starts walking away from me. "My name's Ross by the way."
I can't just let him walk away, especially as he's willing to listen and besides there's something about this boy that makes me want to be in his presence.
"Thanks for caring and sorry for snapping at you, it's just something happened with my parents that has made me really angry at them." I run towards him, "Maybe it would make me feel better if I had someone to talk to?"
He grins at me before replying, "So tell me about yourself?"
"I'm Laura, I'm nineteen, I enjoy listening to music and I like playing the piano and my family can't even tell me why I had to leave everything behind and come live in a place that I don't even know the name of!" I sigh, sliding down onto the damp bed of leaves.
"Well why don't we go pester them with questions until they decide to tell you?" Ross say as he sits down beside me.
"Good idea, but once my parents decide on something they never change their decision." I say, looking at him with hopelessness
"Oh." He looks down, disappointed his idea didn't work.
We both stare into the the dense forest, trying to come up with a plan that would work. After about 10 minutes Ross jumps up with an excited look on his face.
"I have an idea!" He yells
"Dude, my ears are gonna die." I point towards my ears
"Sorry, but listen. We'll both find out what's happened ourselves."
"Ourselves? How?" I ask, confused by what he said.
"Yeah, you can look around for clues at home and listen into your parents conversations and I can search up people who are wanted for crimes." He says, full of confidence.
"Crimes? You think my parents are criminals? They said something bad happened." I say.
"I'm not saying they are but you don't really know, do you? And what if the 'something bad' is them running away from the police?" He points out.
"True."
I look down. What if my parents are actually criminals? They could be drug dealers, thieves or maybe even murderers. I shudder at the thought of living with people who have ended someones life. A tear trickles down my cheek. Why do I keep on crying?
A finger lifts up my head to see worried eyes looking down at me.
"Don't cry, I promise we'll find out what they're hiding and whatever it is I'm sure they have a good reason of why they did it." He reassures me, wiping the tears of my face.
I smile at him before getting up from the ground and hugging him. I feel his arms wrap around me, pulling me in closer. We stay in each others embrace for a few more seconds before letting go of each other.
"Thank you Ross. I really appreciate what you're doing for me." I say while grabbing a hold of his hand.
"No problem. That's what friends do right?" Ross replies, giving my hand a small squeeze.
