Chapter Seven

‘Closed due to unforeseen circumstances’ was the sign that remained on the entrance to Pedro’s. Inside, he and Isabella were getting ready to visit their son at Madison General.

“Are you almost ready Isabella?” Pedro asked his wife. He wanted to leave immediately to go and see Tony and speak with the doctors to find out when they think he may be ready to come home.

“Almost there dear,” She said while adding the final touches to her make up.

They locked the restaurant door and proceeded down the sidewalk towards the bus stop.

A few minutes away from the stop, they saw the bus coming behind them. Isabella waved to the bus and they both sprinted as fast as they could to get to the stop before the bus got there. Arriving a few seconds after the bus did, they both boarded the public transport vehicle panting and out of breath. After getting his breath back, Pedro paid the driver and they went to find seats. Looking down the bus, they noticed Rebecca sitting by herself near the back. Taking the seats next to her, they all chatted while heading in the direction of Madison General.

Rebecca knew she couldn’t tell them about the hostage situation, unless it was absolutely necessary, so they simply talked about college, Ryan and Tony, and the rest of the gang.

After the bus had completed their journey, they all got off and walked towards the main entrance…

What was that? I heard voices all around me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Tony talking with his parents. Becky was sitting next to me and fumbling around in her bag for something.

“Hi Beck’s. Did you get a good nights sleep?” I asked, hoping that she was alert and refreshed from a good rest.

“Yes Ryan, I did, now where is it?” She was still fumbling around.

“What are you looking for?” Just as I asked, she found her cell phone charger. I was so glad. It was very thoughtful of her and I needed the phone battery alive until Saturday night. I passed her the cell phone and she looked around to make sure nobody saw her before she hooked it up and plugged the charger into the mains to recharge the battery.

“Thanks Beck’s, you think of everything!” She just looked at me and said quietly, and with absolute urgency.

“Ryan, we need to talk about the drop off.” I knew we had to wait until Tony’s parents left before we could talk properly. They were only a few feet away and I couldn’t risk them knowing anything, unless they had to.

“How did it go with the ‘mini-cams?” I whispered as quietly as I could. She leant in close and told me she had found the place easily and that everything was all set and recording for the next ten hours.

“I want to take another look at the video clip that this mad creep sent you at the weekend.” I looked over towards her and asked why she wanted to watch it again. Something then made me think. How did Becky have the video clip on her laptop?

“I just thought maybe… maybe we might just see something. When I watched this clip at your house last weekend, I was looking at your parents but I might have missed something about the scenery or a view from a window or anything. I think it’s worth another look.”

“Um… Becky how did you…” She interrupted.

“How did I get this video clip?” She raised an eyebrow and looked right at me.    “Duh! I sent it to myself when I checked your emails at your house yesterday.” I immediately realized how easy it would have been to send the video clip to her email.
