The next morning, I gathered my wits about me as I searched around town again, hoping to find any trace of Ryan he might have left behind. No one seemed to notice him, however, as I checked in all the stores. I was about to lose hope until I found a local hardware store down the road who recognized him.
"Sure, I know him! He came in and bought a couple things"
"Like what?"
"Uh...." His eyes took on a faraway look as he replied, "Don't remember exactly. Just...things." he scratched his head.
"Thanks anyway" I said. At least Ryan hadn't totally vanished. I headed back to my car and was about to start it when a searing pain entered my head and my vision went white.
I was there again. In the white, foresty landscape. I was getting really sick of this place.
"I told you not to dabble in things you don't understand" The voice said.
"Yea, yea. I heard you last time. Broken record much?"
"Don't underestimate me, little girl"
"I'm sixteen" I mumbled. I don't know what made me so brave, but I was tired of being inferior.
"I don't have time for your games. I'm done playing" he said
"So am I"
