The First Anniversary

The day after receiving the Dark Mark, Aurora was eerily quiet. Severus noticed, but knew not to question it. She had been given much the previous night and knew, in her own way, his wife was grieving. Aurora had given up much by earning the Dark Mark. She had essentially given up her freedom, tying herself to the darkness by joining Voldemort. Severus let her be. Though they remained in the library, sitting by the fire and reading, she didn't say much. Unless there was something to be said, Aurora remained quiet.

The day after, the woman was practically her old self once again. When she woke up that morning, Aurora expressed her apologies to her husband, stating that she was sad by what happened, but reiterated that she did not regret her decision. The Potions Master merely kissed the woman's forehead, saying there was no need for an apology as she had the right to react the way she did. When they left their bed for the day, the two spent their time planning their vacation the following week. They agreed to spend several days in New York City, enjoying the boisterous city in the USA for their first anniversary.

They discussed their plans while Aurora handled the details. Since she had been there before, she was familiar with a hotel that served both Muggles, witches, and wizards. She'd been there before and knew that it was a brilliant hotel that would serve their purpose perfectly. She booked their stay for one week. Their anniversary was on Wednesday, and they would get there on Tuesday, giving them some time to tour the city before their special day.

Come Monday, they spent their time packing their belongings, handling any last-minute details regarding the house and their pets. Rose agreed to watch Merlin and Sapphire, to which Aurora dropped them off that afternoon with everything her friend would need. That night, the couple lay in bed staring at each other. Aurora's excitement was too much to contain in her chest, and her husband could easily tell.

"Excited, are we?" He asked, reaching forward to cup his wife's cheek.

She grinned. "You have no idea," she stated. "It's been a few years since I was there last, and I'm excited to see everything again. Especially the food. Bloody hell, I think I'm more excited about that."

The man chuckled at that. When she wanted to, Aurora had an appetite. "Anything in particular you want to eat?"

"Pizza," she said instantly. "Brooklyn style pizza. Also, there's this pizzeria in the southern part of the island that I want to go back to. And - and! There's an Italian restaurant that has delicious fettuccine alfredo." She sighed. "There's too many options!"

"I can tell. I'm just happy we're going somewhere." Severus scooted closer, dropping his hand from his wife's cheek to her clothed waist, pulling her closer to his body. "Is this going to be something we do every summer? Travel for our anniversary?"

Aurora's eyes sparkled. "I didn't even think about that!" She said giddily. "Could we?" She was literally bouncing while lying down. "Can we go somewhere different next year?!"
