In Arendelle, Kristoff finds Princess Anna from trying to find Elsa. But they and Kristoff's traveling companion, the warrior Jack, are soon attacked by a dark shadow, a soul-keeping wreath. Kristoff is "marked" by the Shadow's talisman as they drive it off, so the Shadow will now follow him relentlessly. After they make camp, Kristoff leaves the two so they will not be harmed when he is attacked. When Anna notices his absence, Jack realizes what has happened and goes to pursue him while Anna insists on following. Anna then accuses Jack of being in love with Kristoff, but Jack denies this. They find Kristoff and Jack offers to take on the mark so that Kristoff and Anna can be together, but Kristoff refuses. Kristoff succumbs to the shadow's attack; his last words are "I love you," and it is left unclear to whom he was speaking. Anna and Jack lay Kristoff in the palace where the memorial garden. Jack explains to Anna that they were frozen in time for 28 years until time resumed, allowing Kristoff and Jack to complete their quest and helping Anna find Elsa. But the land has been ravaged by the effects of the curse and the survivors had gathered in a safe haven. Before Jack and Anna can begin to travel there, they discover Dorothy, Renee and the blind witch, unconscious under some debris, and Jack blames them for the Shadow's arrival.
In Storybrooke, Renee Gale prevents a mob of townspeople, led by Walsh, from attacking Zelena, who is powerful despite the fact that magic is now in Storybrooke, and instead takes her to jail. There, Mr.Facilier uses the dark shadow's talisman to mark her. He then uses the talisman and his machete to summon the dark shadow. Renee had promised Grace that she would prevent Zelena from being killed, so she, Dorothy, and Edward goes to get help as they visit the blind witch for exchange of her freedom, the witch agrees, they join forces with Zelena and use the briefcase to banish the shadow to the alternate world. Zelena informs the others that the Enchanted Forest was destroyed by the curse, so this will have the effect of banishing the dark shadow to a void. They succeed, but the shadow pulls Renee and the blind witch into the portal as well and Dorothy follows, unwilling to abandon her child again. Edward takes charge of Grace, who tells Zelena that he will never speak to her again if she does not bring Dorothy and Renee back to Storybrooke. Belle goes to Weaver to kiss him and Rumple explains that he is still the light one, but she responds that she must stay with him because she loves him and for their child. That night, Elsa emerges from the barn where she entered Storybrooke. Elsa the Ice Queen. leaving a trail of frozen ground behind her. The two munchkins Bobby and Alex are driving down the road when they almost run into Elsa; she freezes the truck before impact.
