"Okay okay, yes I'll lock the door when I get home, mom." I said over the phone.

"Sorry that I want you to be safe honey. I made you dinner already, so check the oven when you get home. I'll be back in a couple of days, love you." My mother replied.

"Love you too, have a safe trip." I replied, before the line went dead.

It was getting pretty dark out, knowing it was already winter and eight a clock. The wind had picked up and rain drops splattered across my car windshield. I was just coming home from work, dreading every minute I was there. My mom was going on another one of her business trips. I used to tag along with her when I was young, but now that I'm old enough to stay home I usually keep watch over the house.

I finally reached my house, quickly pulling into the dark driveway. My house isn't in an average neighborhood, there are only a few houses scattered across the land. Pulling the key out of the car, I jumped out, grabbing my purse along the way, and locked my vehicle. Sheets of rain soaked my clothes while I attempted to run to my front door.

When I finally reached my door, I scrambled to find the ring of keys in my quite small purse. After a few moments of only the sound of rain drops hitting the ground and treetops, my hand felt the cool metal brush against my skin. I grabbed it out of my purse, shoving it into the handle until I heard a click. I pushed through, feeling the cold air engulf me. Man, I hated that. My house was always too cold for my liking. I flipped a few switches, turning on most of the lights on the first floor. I hung my thick jacket by the door, before unbuckling my boots.

My feet padded against the hardwood floor to the kitchen. I pulled open the oven door, tilting my head away from the opening when I felt the hot air hit my bare skin. My nostrils were quickly filled with the amazing smell of grilled chicken. My mom was right, she did make me dinner, and it looked delicious.

After my intensely great dinner, I headed up to my room. The storm had not yet passed, but actually had gotten worse. While I made my way up the stairs, I glanced out the window into the pitch black clearing. Suddenly lightning struck, making me scream and run up the stairs to my room. I never liked storms, they always frightened me when I was a child. Don't get me wrong, rain is the best, sometimes I just love running outside and getting soaked. But lightning and thunder, yeah not my thing.

Once I had successfully closed my door to my room, I stripped off my clothes and got into some pajamas. My back quickly hit the mattress, before I covered my legs with my comforter. I just wanted to go to sleep, feel the relaxation it gave me and just dream. My eyes became droopy, as I tilted my body over to turn my lamp off. I rested my head back into my pillow, feeling sleep take over my body completely.

I was in a pitch black room, I squinted, trying to see any source of light. Nothing. There was only the sound of darkness, engulfing me. Suddenly, my eardrums were then filled with the sound of my mother screaming. I turned around to a horrible sight. My father and mother. I looked down to see my father gripping onto a handgun. Widening my eyes, I tried to scream and stop him, but when I opened my mouth, nothing came out. The gun was slowly turned up to face my father's head, as she began to sob, pleading him to stop at once. My mind said for me to run towards them, but my feet wouldn't move an inch. What was wrong with me? It was like I was there, but I wasn't at the same time. It was like I was paralyzed.
