𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐒 walked into the hotel lobby as bleach and stale air freshener hit her nose she lazily walked to counter the twins car seats feeling heavier than ever the clerk at the front desk barley looked up typing slow as if he couldn't hear the twins fussing
"reservation?" he asked flatly
"No, just one room for tonight"dess muttered sliding her ID across the counter her fingers trembling as she reached for her debit card
Minutes later she was dragging herself down a long hallway carpet worn and stained the twins finally quiet in their carriers when she pushed opened the door to her suite a wave of relief hit her plain white sheets buzzing air conditioner and most importantly space.Space away from kay away from the constant tug of war of love and pain
she set the car seats down and collapsed on the edge of the bed covering her face with both hands wondering what did she do wrong wondering if this is how being a mother will feel but soon as those thoughts started flooding her mind her phone lit up next to her Kay calling again for 27 time tonight.
with a shaken breath she slid her thumb across the screen
"What?"her voice came out hoarse and tired
"Dess...thank you for picking up please don't hang up i just-
She cut him off "kay im really just tired right now let me shower and i'll call you back"
the call was silent before kay said something "can i stay otp with you?"

"fine" she stated as she laid a blanket on the bed and laying the twins on it "i'll be back" she walked into the bathroom leaving the door open just in case they started to cry she'll hear

it's been a while since dess been out the shower now they been getting down to the bottom of things while on the phone
"so who was the girl at your door kay?" she asked while setting the phone up feeding kamari
"man it wasn't even like that if that's what you thinking it was just some old bitch i used use"kay started rolling up taking quick glances at dess noticing her beauty
"so why didn't you say anything?"
"because you ain't ask mamas-"
"aht don't call me that we ain't even cool fr but the real question is why have you been making me feel alone since the twins got here?
kay exhales "dess baby ian mean to make you feel like that i thought i was protecting yall keeping my distance so the shit i got going on my end won't touch yall again"
"okay okay i understand but kay that's not protection that's abandonment you shut me out kay you led me on like we was building a family then made me feel like i wasn't even apart of your life anymore and even when we're in the house protected inside you still acted the same way so what's really up with that?"
his voice broke louder now desperate
"i ain't shut you out on purpose! i been fighting battles you don't even see just to make sure you straight baby i love you dess i really do i love the twins i know i ain't show yall the way i should and i apologize i didn't mean to lead you on cause what i wanted was you"
"then why do i feel like i been doing this all alone if that's what you wanted?"
The silence that followed was heavier than anything either of them said dess wiped her face shaking her head
" i don't got more to say right now im drained kay you got some thinking to do and things that needs to get fixed"
she ended the call before he could respond laying kamari back on the blanket besides ky"aire

dess woke up to knocking on the door
"who tf..." she said to herself while slowy and quietly creeping to the door looking through the peep hole seeing someone with a hoodie on and a ski mask but she recognized those eyes it was 𝐊𝐚𝐲
she cracked opened the door just enough for dess to poke her head out her bonnet slipping to the slide her eyes puffy from crying all night.
kay stood there in the dim hallway light his body was tensed like he'd been watching his back the whole way here
"Can i come in ma?" his voice was low almost a whisper "i can't be out here moving loose just standing in the open.You know i got people who wanna see me gone. ian tryna risk it— especially not when it comes to you and the twins"
Dess didn't move right away she looked at him in the eyes "Kay..."
He leaned closer voice shaking now "I'm going crazy over you Dess i never acted like this over nobody.Never i don't care who it is,what it is i can't leave you alone when i distance myself i still couldn't you the only one who got me like this"
For a moment. she just stared at him heart pounding his words were raw and desperate the kind that made her chest ache even though she wanted to stay cold.
"Please.." he added softer this time "Just let me in so we can talk face to face"
