That night I laid in bed thinking about all that had happened this morning in detention. Why did he trap me like that? Did he really want to kiss me? Was he just trying to mess with my mind? I rolled over and looked at the clock. It was already 1:15 in the morning. There is no way I'm going to be able to just wake up and go to school, but of course step-mummy will make me. Closing my eyes, I finally fall into a dreamless sleep.
"Lillian Marie Brinks, wake up this instant," my step mother, Jill, screeches. That woman, I swear ever since my dad married that witch of a woman my life has been hell. She never steps off my case, and it is becoming down right unbearable. After not responding, she had the audacity to shake me.
"Oh my God, I'm up," I scream. She scoffs and walks out of my room muttering under her breath. With a huff, I roll over and get out of bed. I throw on Nike shorts and a t-shirt with no makeup. While walking down to the car, I brush my long wavy hair. Muffins were sitting on the counter so I grabbed them. It was 8:20. I had ten minutes until school started and there was no way in hell I was going to be late and get detention again.
I make it to my desk just as the bell rings. Looking up, my eyes catch Mr. Forbes. I blush and look down at my hands, pretending that my nail polish is far more interesting then his amazing, sexy, irresistible....woah um I mean his annoying face.
"Now class," he begins, "today we will do an entrance exam. That way I can tell where exactly each and everyone of you are. It won't be terribly long, however, it certainly won't be easy. Please try your best." He passed out all the tests, winking at me when he gives me mine. A blush creeps onto my face and I begin working. When he said this wasn't going to be easy he wasn't kidding. Suddenly my phone buzzed in my pocket.
Braxton(: - Do you know any of this?!
Lilly - Hell no. What the fuck is this crap?
Braxton(: - I don't know but I'm totally winging it
"What do we have here? A texter? Well that's just a shame. I will take that," Mr. Forbes said while stealing my phone.
"No! You can't do that," I snapped.
"Oh, but I just did. You're just having a rough start aren't you, Lillian? Detention today after school," he smirked at me.
"But I was texting someone in the class!"
"Well I didn't see it. Now if you don't mind please continue your work as will everyone else in the class."
I glared at Braxton from where I was seating. He was trying to contain his laughter and failing to do so. Finally, I just gave up on trying to take the test and doodled until the bell rang. As I was walking out, I figured he would give me my phone back. When he didn't, I decided I had no choice but to go to stupid detention after school. This is just a fucking great start to the day.
Later I lunch, I sat with Bri, Braxton, his twin, Broaden, and our other friend, Gabby.
"Did you hear that Lil got detention with Mr. F this afternoon," Braxton asked our group.
"What? No someone failed to mention that," Gabby squealed while shooting me a jealous look. "What I wouldn't give to be in your place."
"Please, take it. I can't stand that dumb asshole," I bit back. See Gabby only hangs out with us because she is dating Broaden. No one likes her. Not even Broaden, actually; he only likes the sex. Gabby rolled her eyes and ate her lunch.
"Oh Lilly. What are we going to do with you? You don't like him but you sure do get detention with him a lot," Bri sighed.
"This time wasn't even my fault," I replied.
"Oh yeah? Who's was it then," Broaden said, finally chiming in.
"Your brothers. That's who."
"Braxton, what did you do," Broaden and Bri said at the same time.
Cracking up he said, "I was texting her about the dumb ass test we had to take."
I was about to say something when the bell rang. We said our goodbyes and I noticed that Broaden seemed much more friendly with me today. It was weird but I blew it off and went on to the rest of my classes.
Seventh hour came much too quickly. I trudged to my locker, got all my things, and climbed the stairs to Mr. Forbes classroom. It made me angry, but I couldn't help but feel a little giddy at the thought of what could happen this time. If only I knew, I never would've gone.
