Danny. My best friend since I was seven and he was six.  He's been there for me through thick and thin, crap boyfriends and relapse resistance. He helps me choose photos to post and outfits to wear.

People thought we were dating. "Ella and Danny!" We laughed. "We're like brother and sister, are you kidding?" We always said. Sure, I thought about it, what it would be like. What it would be like if we linked fingers and cuddled. We hug. We put our arms around each other. We said I love yous as best friends. We were just best friends.

Danny was known to be a player. But Danny was always hung up on Felicia. No girl could match up to Felicia. Felicia. Who broke his heart. Not Cristie, not Amelia, not Aimee, not Leanne. Felicia was one in a million. 

As per normally, I sent photos of clothes I bought that day to a group chat between Danny and our other best friend, Heather. Heather was in a different time zone. All the way in Scotland. Which meant she was barely online at the same time.

Ella, you look really good.
I mean, not that you don't always.

Thanks! I think my boobs grew bigger 😂

I don't believe in relationships that are one sided. But if I like you and you like me then I guess yeah sure.

Danny
Let's say I like you right now. Hypothetically.

Ella
Probably not. It's summer, Dan. Bad timing? And I don't like anyone right now.

Danny
So how do I make you like me? Say I ask you out when school starts.

Ella
If I like you by then, yeah.
It just happens, Dan. You gotta make me feel good and that makes you feel good and you can handle my problems.

Danny
I already do all that, El.

Ella
You do that because you're my best friend.

What if I do all that because I want to, and it makes me happy to make you happy. That I could ignore you and this chat and talk to you once in a while, because you're my best friend.
Ella. I was there for you when that asshole Sam came along. I was there for you with Ollie and Zach. What if when I hug you its with as much love as my heart can give. How much more obvious do I need to be?

Jesus, I'm done with Felicia. We haven't seen each other for five months.

I didn't sleep that night. My heart was beating too fast. My emotions were just a jumbled up mess. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know how I felt or how I should've felt. I didn't know if I liked him back, or if the feelings were just because we were best friends.
