Rolf spent half the year wondering if Emma Potter was the one that got away. Of course watching her and Mattheo Riddle parading around Hogwarts as the "it" couple was harder than he thought it would be when she broke things off with him.
He told himself he would be fine as long as they stayed friends. She was the kindest person he's ever met. Losing that kind of friendship over jealousy and a broken heart seemed a little preposterous to him.
Rolf could get over her, it would take time...or at least he's convinced himself he could.
Given his studies and late night quest to see magical creatures it's not surprising he had little time to dwell on losing her.
Busy is good, keeps the mind distracted.
He's sneaking through the quiet warmly lit common room. Mostly everyone should be asleep and if they aren't then they're in their rooms. He's almost towards the earthy passage to the kitchens looking down at his watch checking the time when a small body runs right into him. He catches her by the elbows keeping her from toppling over.
"Sorry. Pardon me." She apologize not once looking up as she holds something in her sweater close to her chest. She side steps Rolf without a second thought forcing him to turn around to watch her scurry off towards the dorms.
Was she smuggling something inside the dorms? Something had moved under her sweater. For the first time since Emma he was intrigued by a girl.
Marigold Tonks didn't have time to stop for idle chitchat. As the younger sister of Nymphadora, she did her best to not follow her sisters unruly behavior. It wasn't lost on her the way the professors had groaned with displeasure when they learned that Marigold was a Tonks. She did however get satisfaction once they realized she was nothing like her sister. Well except the clumsy part, she rather lacked the grace to stay on her own two feet most days.
Dora was funny and feisty, whereas Marigold was serious and quiet. A part of her wished she had a bit of her sisters humor. Maybe then she would have more friends....well friends at all.
Yes there were people she chatted with in class, the common room, and occasionally dinning gossip. But when it came to being invited to parties, friendly hangouts in each others dorm rooms, or even the black lake "bash." Her invitation was forgotten.
The thing about being serious and quiet made you rather invisible. Most days Marigold didn't mind the nuance of people seeing right past her but there are those days when something particularly good happened to her and she just wanted someone to share it with.
Sometimes she just wanted her life to be a little less lonely.
Which brings her to smuggling in a newborn niffler whose cries she heard fifty feet away in the courtyard on her way back from the library. After inspecting the area for any sign of its mum she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Winter had just breezed in with the chillest nip in the air. She couldn't let this little creature freeze to death, even if it was a troublesome pick pocketer.
She let out the longest sigh after closing her door behind her looking down to see the black ball of fluffy fur hidden in her sweater. Panic started to settle into the pit of her stomach. She didn't have the slightest clue on how to care for a niffler let alone any magical creature. Her parents never let them own a house pet before, that was more of a muggle thing and Father was allergic to most common animals.
Her head began to spin, would it drink milk? Does it need a warm light placed above it? A cage or enclosure of some kind? What do nifflers even eat?
She lets out another sigh before heading straight for her desk where The Monsters Book of Monsters sat underneath a stack of notes.
