                                                                    Dedicated to Shawn

We have to stay on the highway for a bit. We don't know how long. The RV broke down and now we just got to sit tight. Dale is currently attempting to fix the RV as the others are gathering supplies.

I take my sister's hand and walk to rick,"We are going on a walk."

"I don't think that's a good idea," he says and shakes his head.

"Why not then?"

"You are twelve and eight. We just want to make sure you are safe from the walkers."

"Thirteen,"I correct. "And I am sure we can handle ourselves."

"I am sure you can, but not so sure about your sister, she is still small, you can go but your sister must stay."

I stare at the man and whisper something only loud enough to reach my ears. I turn to my sister; "Stay with Carol and Sophia. She's a nice girl. I am going on a walk, I will be back soon."

I grab my bag and head off into the woods.

I always enjoyed taking a break. Whenever I fought with my dad I would always go to my room and listen to music. I would always read a book to escape from the true reality around me. I always found my way to 'Petey'. A book about a disabled boy who's parents tried hard for him. But it was eventually too much for them to handle. They sent him to an insane asylum hoping it would be better for him. At the end, somebody cares for him. Someone very important to Petey. And I find it sick of all the things that happened to him. Including the fact it is based on a true story.

I continue to walk in the woods as I stop in my tracks. A squirrel sits in front of me. I slowly reach into my pocket and pull out my knife. I throw my knife at the squirrel, hitting it's tail. The squirrel squeaks in pain and attempts to get away. The squirrel's paws pound against the ground as I come closer to the critter. I grab another knife from my shoe and stab the squirrel in the head. Once the creature discontinues to move I collect my knives and put the squirrel in my backpack.

I come back to the RV and yell"I got a squirrel!"

Rick runs past me into the woods as I see Carol begin to cry.  Carol approaches me and embraces me in a hug. I gently hug her back as I lay my raccoon on a car beside us.

"I'm so sorry. There were walkers and we hid under the cars. The walkers found Sophia and your sister. They ran away. But don't worry. Rick ran after them."

"If I didn't have to worry, then you wouldn't be crying. Thanks," I say and drop my bag on the car with my squirrel and grab my gun from my belt.

Shane runs over to me and sighs,"do you think that's a good idea?"

"Actually yes, I do," I say and attempt to walk away from Shane.

He grabs my wrists and repeats himself,"I don't think that's a good idea."

"You asked me to join this group, I agreed. Now, you better let me go or I ain't gonna be nice."

Shane lets go of my wrists and grunts,"Whatever, your'e not my problem."

"You bet your ass I ain't." I say and walk into the woods.

My sister's cries ring through the air as I move my way in her direction.

"Katy?" I yell.

I see Rick talking to Sophia and my sister and watch. The girls go under a ledge in a river and hug another. Rick yells at two zombies and makes noise. The zombies walk past Sophia and Katy and follow Rick. Once Rick is out of view I jump down into the river to my sister.

"Come on girls, we're going back ," I say and reach out my hands.

"Picky back," my sister says. I allow my sister to jump on my back and grab Sophia's hand.

"Why did Rick leave you?" I ask as we work our way back to the RV.

"He was going to make the zombies leave us alone, and then he said he would come back,"Sophia said.

"Okay," I say and help Sophia take another step onto the highway.

Carol runs over to her daughter and embraces her in a hug.

"Thank you,"she says.

"You're welcome," I reply as Rick comes up from the woods.

He stares at me with wide eyes and comes toward me. "You-.Okay," he says and walks away.

I shake my head in confusion and let my sister down.

"So, if nobody heard, I got a squirrel!"
