"Good morning Starshine, the earth says hello!" I hear someone say. I drifted off to sleep after lunch and now I have no idea as to where I am. Still lying down, I rub my eyes. When my eyes open, I am met with big, deep brown eyes staring right at my pupils and I scream. I jerk my hands up to push Daniel's face away from mine. His face was so close to min that I could feel his breathe on my forehead. He had a bright smile plastered and his eyes nearly jumped out of their sockets. Somewhere I hear Emma laugh and I hear a camera go 'click'. I groggily get up, rub my eyes and pull my shirt down over my exposed waist. Daniel smirks. "Cmon, we've reached our night's stop, "Emma says as I get off the car. I stretch and Daniel raises his eyebrows. "So desperate to get me attracted?" he asks proudly. "Get over yourself, " I say with a wave of my hand and follow Emma into the hotel.
It was a small but neat hotel, with a compact reception desk, four comfortable-looking sofas opposite the desk, a wooden centre table with a bowl of candies, small potted plants between each sofa and a well-stacked magazine rack. Emma walks towards the reception desk to get us rooms, Daniel plonks down on the nearest sofa and I drift towards the magazine rack.
"No vacancy," Emma informs us after I've flipped through at least three magazines. I look up incredulously. "No vacancy?! Then where do we go?!!" I screech. "Woah, relax. This isn't the only motel around. There are other options, " Emma says, trying to calm me down. "But what if we don't get vacancies there either!?" I cry. "Then we sleep on benches, " Daniel says flatly. I scowl at him. He scowls back. Emma sighs. "Kids, " she comments and walks off. "I am not a kid!" I whine but follow her out, with Daniel right behind. The last thing I'd want is to get stuck in the middle of nowhere without a place to sleep.
"No luck, " Emma says after she walks out of the 4th motel. This activity was discouraging me. "What if we really don't get a place to stay tonight? What do we do?" I asked super-worriedly. "For God's sake Nan, you're desperateness is more than than a werewolf in heat, " Emma says bluntly. "Werewolf in heat? That's a good comparison, " Daniel comments with an amused laugh. "Shut up both of you. I don't want to be stranded in Nowhereland for a whole night, " I say.
"That one Emma, that doesn't seem packed, " Daniel says pointing towards a large motel tucked away behind two larger motels.
"There is good news and bad news," Emma says as I anxiously look at her.
"Good news is, they have a room that can accommodate all three of us. "I almost squeal in delight when I hear it.
"Wait. That's not it. The bad news is, the room is on the 5th floor and the elevator is out of service." My enthusiasm fell. We just had a change of clothes for the next day, so there wasn't heavy luggage but 5 floors? That could be a pain.
"Someone looks troubled, " Daniel comments as he gets off the car and imitates to warm up before a long marathon.
"I'm not troubled," I shot back. "I am a basketball player and 5 floors is no big deal, " I say confidently, though my limbs were complaining due to the long car journey.
"Let's see," he replies in a challenging tone and I immediately know that I need to win this 'competition'.
While Emma books the room, I look around the place. It is rather dirty and dim , but anything, and I mean Anything, is better than sleeping on the bench.
"I'll be the referee of your race "Emma volunteers as she approaches us with rooms keys. I give her a thumbs up. "Ready, steady, on your marks, get set, GO!" she shrieks as the receptionist laughs at us. I shot up the stairs with all my might with Daniel just a step behind. One careless move and this could be the end of my supremacy. My athletic body sprang up steps two at a time but Daniel wasn't lagging behind. I was panting by the time I reached the third floor but I am not going to give up. And these steps were huge. One step here was equivalent to two steps back home.
"Tired, Princess?" Daniel asks casually as he hops along next to me. He isn't panting but I can see sweat glistening on this forehead and dampening his dark hair. "Not even a bit, " I say though I was in desperate need of air. I am an athlete but five flights of stairs at once is no child's play, sportsman or not.
When we reach the last flight, I give all I had and shot up steps. Daniel is caught off guard at my sudden outburst and couldn't catch me on time. "Hey!" he tries to protest but I am already 3 steps ahead of him. Just as I am about to step on the final stair, I lose balance and trip forward, thrust against a rock. "Easy, " a voice says. My cheeks start burning when I realise it isn't a rock but someone's chest. This trip is accounting to a lot of 'touchy' moments, I say to myself.
I quickly retreat back and shyly look up to apologise.
When I look up, I freeze. My body turns cold. The world around me starts to spin. Not him. Oh Lord, let him not recognise me. I pray he doesn't identify me, but his eyebrows shoot up in recognition when he sees my face clearly. "Who do we have here? It's Nancy Woods, daughter of famous Michael Woods!" he says with an amused look.
"Jacob, " I manage to say.A/N- Hey there! Sorry about the short chapters. I am trying to make them long, but since I want to end at cliff hangers it is difficult to make the chapters lengthy. I'd like to hear your ideas so please don't hesitate to comment :) Sorry for the typos, love all the readers and cheers to Watt pad!
