ANOTHER new family. .

That will be four this month. . .

Im in my workers car, she is driving me to the new family’s house. I have all my things and im as ready as I will ever be . . . we pull into a drive way.

“Were here.” She says

I nod

“Let’s get out and meet everyone.” She says getting out and coming around to open my door for me.

I get out of her car and grab my bags from her back seat. Taking my things with me I walk up the steps and knock on the door. A blond girl opens the door.

“Hello. . .” she pauses “Can I help you?”

I nod my head twice

“Hi, im Sofia . . . this is Becky . . . are your parents’ home?” asks my worker

“Yep, just a minute.” She says before poking her head back in the boor. “Mom!Dad! It’s for you!”

Two people who look about roughly 35 come to the door with smiles on their faces. I smile slightly at them.

“Hello, im Sofia. We talked on the phone earlier. This is Becky.” She says

“Hello, im Margret. This is Bob.” Says the woman

They reach out to shake my hand. I shake their hand and they invite us in. they show me to my new room . . . it’s a typical teenage girls bedroom. It has Caribbean blue walls and bedspread with white furniture and there is a small walk in closet and a window with a window seat. I was really glad that I didn’t find pink everywhere, Sofia must have told them that I hate the color pink. Where would I be without her. . .

I put my bags on the bed and turn around to face Margret, Bob and Sofia.

“Would you like to get settled then? They all ask

I nod and they all leave the room.

I walk over to the dresser with one of my bags and unpacking my clothes. I put my only picture on my mom, dad sister and I on the nightstand beside the bed and I place my makeup bag on the dresser. I sit on the bed waiting for Sofia to return.  It feels like forever before she returns.

“Are you all settled?” she asks

I shake my head yes.

“Let’s go downstairs to meet the rest of the family.” She says

We walk out of the room and down stairs. She leads me into a living room area. The girl who answered the door and a little boy are sitting on a couch watching TV. They look up and me as I enter the room. I pull out my cellphone and text the only person in my contacts. Sofia.

-I feel strange. Margret looks like my mom from the picture I have but a little older. It’s a little creepy.-

She looks at me before introducing me to the people on the couch.

“Becky, this is Fina and Jarle they are Margret and Bobs children. Fina is your age and Jarle is ten.

“Hello, Becky.” They both say

I smile

“Wow, so you really don’t talk. . .at all. . ?” the girl Fina asks

I nod

“I could never do that I would die. You must be strong to do something like that.” She says

Wow, someone who hasn’t called me a creepy dork or something stupid like that.

I smile

“You, have a cellphone right?” she says

I nod

“What’s your number . . . erm I will give you mine. .” she says

I hand her my phone and she hands it back to me a minute later with her number saved. I text her.

-Becky here. . .-

She looks up at me and smiles.

She takes my hand and leads me over to the couch we both sit down.

“Do you like family channel?” she asks

I nod and smile. She changes the channel and the new show so random is on. We sit and watch in silence. . .i laugh a soundless laugh.
