A girl with no regrets

I was still getting over the shock. Maybe she forgot. Maybe it wasn’t her. Maybe it was one of Adam’s games, and me but whenever I tried to convince myself otherwise I would think back to her face, her beautiful face.

I shocked myself. Was this really me thinking all of this. I Jamie Knight, The guy who slept with 5 girls in the one night. Date 4 girls at the same time and my sister enjoys their pain. Why me?

Willis was making breakfast for Ivy I could smell the salty bacon and the sounds of sausages sizzling in the pan. I saw how the table was laid. We were telling Ivy.

“It’s too soon.” I said bluntly. “She needs to get used to her not being hear.”

Willis didn’t understand. No one did except me and I just happen to be the screw up of the family.

“Would you like me to lie to her?” She demanded, “If I sign those papers I am guardian of you two. I am not going to start off in a bad form. She picked the pan off the cooked and scooped the sausages and rashers in a bowl lined with kitchen roll.

“Are you hungry.” She asked still angry at me for questioning her decision.

”Yeah, I’ll stay, Ivy needs me.” I shot Willis a cold look and she returned it with a smile. What! A smile. Then I heard Ivy yawn behind me. Oh, a smile.

”Good morning” I said happily. “Breakfast.” I gestured to the table of food. It looked yummy. The table had never been so full.

”Yeah, I’m starving!.” Willis and I laughed at her enthusiasm. She was too happy today. She wasn’t in as much pain. Willis was about to ruin that. Ivy sat down and started loading her plate with food. I copied as did Willis. We ate in silence for a moment and then she noticed there was something up.

“Guys the tension here is overbearing. What is going on?” She was serious which was a change from her usual carefree self. She stood up and glared down at us. “What are you not telling me!” she was yelling now and we knew now would be a good time before she bust a vein.

“Ivy, Mom isn’t coming back.” I blurted. “I’m s sorry.” She looked shocked but not upset. I think she understood. The room was too quiet. You could hear the sound of the clock ticking.

Willis’s cheeks were tear stained and fresh ones were rolling down. Ivy couldn’t speak. For once she had not one thing to say. I reached over and took hold of her hand.

“Everything will be okay.” I reassured her. “Willis will look after us.” I was still convincing myself that.

I didn’t think the day could get any worse. I was determined to find that girl but I couldn’t. I waited outside he AP Calculus class but she never showed up.

”Mr Knight may I ask why you stand infront of this door every day at this time?”

I didn’t know how to answer her. How about  ‘Oh I’m just waiting outside this door for a girl I forgot when I was eight.’

Or ‘There’s a girl I am dying to meet because I have a picture of her when she was eight I found it under my bed.’ I decided to go for the safer option.

“Well Ms Cartwright I am plucking up the courage to ask can I join her AP class.”

Damn I screwed up I am shit at calculus! Well I have gone this far may as well finish it like a professional.

“Yeah I think I could do way better.” I stood there trying to remain as serious as possible. She was looking me up and down curiously.

“You do know you have to actually put in effort in an AP class,” Ms Cartwright said.

She wasn’t a particularly pretty woman. Her nose curved down and a small bump from her various pregnancies protruded from her waist. She was wearing one of the long plaid skirts she was famous for amongst the student body. Her thin white shirt showed the plain push up bra she was wearing underneath.

I wanted to back out but I had to see her. I had to see Willow.

“Jamie this really proves that you are not AP level.” She gave me a disapproving look. “Go to class now.” She walked away.

Why couldn’t I join?

The corridors were eerie when they were empty. As I walked to my next class I could hear the echoes of my feet hitting the ground. Everyone was in class except for the few people mitching out in the parking lot. I have always hated the sickly green color of the school corridors. There were few windows to let light in so we had to settle for artificial light that made the halls dull.

Ms Ford was used to me being late for class. She has come to accept I will always be 10 minutes late.

She couldn’t say much though because she was always in 5 minutes after the bell.

When I walked in the whole class glanced up to look at me. It was very intimidating standing up at the top of the class under all the stares of the pupils. Adam was grinning cheekily and Ms Ford noticed.

”Adam if there is something so funny why don’t you share it with us?”  Ms ford looked like she was at the end of her tether with Adam and I.

”Yeah. Jamie has a pink heart post –it on his ass.” I looked around and sure enough stuck to my butt was a pink heart sticky note.

“Sit down Jamie.” She said shaking her head.

Adam was smirking at me. “So where are you when you stay behind?” he whispered across at me. I needed to tell him about Willow. I hadn’t seen her again.

“I’ll tell you later.” I whispered back. He leaned back in his chair and humphed.

I laughed silently at him. He smirked back at me. I really hate French.

The hallways Of Henley High were packed full of eager student gathering the last of what they need for Tuesdays assignments. Dots of different colors whizzed past me in a bid to make it to the front door before getting swallowed by the rest of the people.

Something hard hit my feet. I bent down to pick up the maths book but someone else’s hands grabbed it first.

”Sorry.” She gasped. Her voice sounded like dripping honey and a cool summer breeze. It was sweet.

I looked up it was her. It was Willow.
