ellie struggles at her car.
tries to open the door.
it's locked, of course.
"don't you need a key to unlock that?"
she sighs and leans against it with her back.
"are you okay? did you lose your key, lock it in?"
she looks at the hospital for a second.
"no," she sighs again. "i—this isn't mine."
i'm confused, "what? then why—?" for a minute. "oh. right."
she rolls her eyes. "i'm not scared of you, i was just hoping you'd leave me if you saw i was about to drive off. take a hint, ya know..."
"oh."
"you say that a lot."
"right. so why this car? it looks like a granny's." i laugh.
"haha, very funny. who cares. i was just trying to dodge you fast."
"but why?" i wonder.
"i. don't. like you. you're...weird, 'alex turner.'"
i smile. "so you were listening."
"whatever," she crosses her arms. "why are you obsessed with me?"
she looks dead serious.
"not true. i'm just...curious?"
ellie looks at the hospital doors once more, then starts walking away from the car.
"about what? i'm not an interesting person."
i follow her. "let me be the judge of that. i just want to know...who you are."
she slides her sunglasses up her nose, covers her dark eyes.
it's a beautiful combination, dark and light.
"that's a big request, bud. you know my name, that's enough."
"okay. can i just ask why you were crying? your eyes were a little puffy..." shit, bad thing to say.
she huffs, "thanks, douche face."
"no, sorry. did you get bad news? what are you here for?"
"so many questions. but uh, it's my... my nan, yeah. she's also got cancer... not much longer. days are short. almost the end of her road."
"oh."
the only word i seem to know.
