Keeping Vigil

 After sitting Doctor Wright spoke again, telling them how Dean was, all three were scared he was gone.

 "When Dean was brought in we rushed him to the OR, once there we discovered he had been shot twice; once in the stomach, and once in the chest. When we opened him up we found that the bullet in his stomach, bounced around hitting his liver. So, we removed part of his liver along with the bullet. The bullet in his chest, thankfully missed all vital organs and caused minimal damage; it hit a major blood vessel and nicked his left lung. We managed to stitch up both and stop the bleeding. Once his serious wounds were taken care of we focused on his injuries from the beating he received. He has bruises and cuts all over his entire body; some cuts required stitches, so in total he has 100. His nose, three ribs and right wrist are broken, as well as his right cheek bone which caused his eye to swell shut. We gave him a blood transfusion and he's now resting comfortably in his room. He's stable right now, but the next 24-48 hours are the most critical! If he doesn't develop an infection he'll make a full recovery in a few weeks!"

 "What...what happens if he does?" Roman asked.

 "Well, we'll do all we can and fight it with antibiotics, but I...I don't know if he's strong enough to fight back." Doctor Wright answered.

"Can we see him?" Seth asked holding both Roman and Paige's hands.

"Of course, I'll send a nurse in to take you to his room. I'll be by in a couple of hours to check on him, if you need me before then just have a nurse page me."

"Thank you Dr. Wright." Seth said, as they all shook his hand and he left.

"What are we going to do? We might..."

"No!" Seth said cutting Paige off. We aren't going to lose Dean! He's strong, he's a fighter and he'll come back to us!" He said, before he hugged them both.

"Excuse me, but Dr. Wright asked me to take you to Mr. Ambrose's room. Are you ready?" A pretty, blond nurse asked coming into the room.

"Yeah." Roman answered, as Paige took both men's hands.

  A few seconds later they arrived at Dean's room, the nurse opened the door and went inside, followed by Roman, Seth and Paige. They stood by Dean's bed, all three frozen as they looked at Dean laying there. He looked horrible, there were so many bruises all over his body; it was hard to tell where one bruise ended and another started. He had no shirt on and his gunshot wounds were wrapped. He had tubes and wires everywhere, he was so still, which bothered all three, as they had never known him to be still for so long. After checking on him the nurse left them alone to be with Dean.

 Roman sat on Dean's right side and took his hand; careful not to hurt his injured wrist, while Seth and Paige sat on his left side, Paige holding his hand. No one spoke, the room silent except for the steady beeping of Dean's heart monitor.

 They stayed by Dean's side all night, Paige fell asleep on the other bed in the room, leaving Roman and Seth to keep vigil. Seth tried to be the strong one, like he's been since Dean was first kidnapped, but sitting by Dean, holding his hand, he could feel himself breaking. Roman looked at him and knew what Seth was feeling, he spoke gently.

 "Seth, I know what you're doing and you don't need to! You don't have to be the strong one for Paige and I, he's your family too! You can let your pain out!"

"Ro, I've tried to be strong, but seeing him like this...it scares me! We could lose him and..."

  Seth trailed off as he began to cry, Roman stood and went to him, pulling Seth up and held him tightly as they both cried. A few minutes later Seth calmed down and pulled away, he decided to go for a walk to clear his head. He told Roman, and checked on Paige, before he left.

He wandered around the hospital for awhile, the walk helped calm him down, so he decided to return to the room. As he neared the nurses station he heard his name being called by a familiar voice. He turned around and saw one of the heads of the bureau walking towards him, Seth froze!
