I froze in place as my eyes flashed open wide with fear.

I knew that British accent. I despised that voice.

Colton.

"What do you want, Colton?" I asked, remaining still.

"Are you kidding, love? It's the same thing I've always wanted. Your blood." I could hear the smirk on his face.

I slowly stood up and came face to face with him. He looked the same as he always had, short black hair, dark eyes, and a cunning jaw line with a bit of stubble.

"Don't be afraid, Gwen. I've told you already, I'm not going to kill you," he said, taking a step towards me.

I stepped backwards, afraid.

He lunged at me in a flash, giving me no time to react or protect myself. He grabbed my arms and held them tightly at my side, making it impossible for me to fight back. Pushing me into the looming forest, he pinned me against a tree and sank his teeth into my neck. The sharp pain shot through my entire body, making my body limp as I cried out.

I could feel my head begin to spin as he continued to suck the blood from my veins.

"Please," I whispered, my vision beginning to turn black. Just before I shut my eyes, I saw a dead tree branch on my side.

Wooden stakes weren't supposed to harm vampires with the Chosen Mortal's blood, but it was my only chance of survival.

Colton was too occupied sucking my blood to see me grab the stake and plunge it into his chest as hard as I could.

Unfortunately, I missed his heart, but I managed to harm him enough that he released his sharp teeth from my neck and pulled away.

I used all of my strength to stand up and run as far as I could away from him. I headed in the direction of the parking lot. I had to get to my car. I needed to get out of here.

Colton cried out in pain from a distance. He must have pulled out the branch from his chest. With his healing capabilities and vampire quickness, he would be at my side in just seconds.

The world began to spin just as I reached the parking lot. My car was just feet away.

"You can't hide from me, darling. I'm coming for you," Colton shouted from the forest.

I somehow managed to unlock my car and get in without falling flat on my face. Just as I sat in the driver's seat, I remembered what I had in my purse. Damian's blood.

I frantically searched in my bag for the tube of red liquid. I quickly drank half of the contents and forced it down my throat.

Almost instantly, my head stopped spinning and I could see straight enough to watch Colton step out from the forest. He smirked at me for a few seconds until I came to my senses and started my car. I drove off campus as fast as I possibly could, trying not to hit anything. When I looked in my rear-view mirror, Colton hadn't budged. He stood there, a content look on his face as he watched me drive off.

I drove to Damian's house, running a red light and nearly hitting a white Mercedes on the way. The driver honked at me with good reason and I guiltily waved to apologize.

When I reached the Montgomery mansion, I ran into the house without knocking.

Violet was once again curled up on the couch, this time with a drawing pad sitting on her lap and a pencil in hand. When I burst through the doors, she looked at me with cold wide eyes.

Grayson instantly came down the staircase, concerned with all the racket.

"Back so soon?" he smirked. When he saw my panicked expression, his smirk faded and his arrogant eyes turned into worry. "Are you alright?"
