I know these chapters are kind of short and not very action-packed, but it still is only the beginning and these chapters are the foundation to future exciting ones, so please stick around to read more. Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think. :)

Arie's P.O.V.

I've only ever been in a mental institution's cafeteria once in my life.

My team and I were there to interrogate a patient about a certain case. I remember walking in and seeing people muttering to themselves harshly, drawing disturbing images, or just sitting, staring blankly at the walls.

It was terrifying.

There were people there that claimed they could see things, horrific things that no one else could see. There were people who thought they were talking to someone else, when in reality they were just whispering to themselves. There were people that didn't even act like people. They were like robots, sitting and watching; not thinking, not moving, just breathing. They were so out of it, all I could think was how did they get to this point?

When did they stop living?

I wasn't extremely excited to be entering another cafeteria full of mental patients again. It's not that I hated them or anything; in fact, I felt bad for them. They never chose to be crazy.

I just didn't want to be surrounded by such gloom and doom. I didn't want to be surrounded by people who belonged here, who belonged together.

I was the outcast.

And in no situation, not even this one, does anyone want to be the outcast.

But then again, I don't want to lose my sanity either.

I trudged sluggishly behind Dax, watching him strut confidently past the hoards of nurses and doctors scurrying through the white halls. As I walked past, I noticed the nurses, who were walking in the opposite direction, had flustered blushes covering their cheeks. It didn't even take me two seconds to conclude that Dax was probably winking or flashing that cheeky grin of his at them.

They couldn't help but be attracted to him.

He was insanely hot.

Emphasis on the 'insanely'.

"Flirt," I muttered under my breath, glaring at his back. He shouldn't be teasing those poor nurses.

Suddenly, he whirled around, surprising me. I didn't even have time to stop, making me run into his muscled chest.

He smirked smugly down at me, his black eyes filled with pure amusement.

"Jealous, love? I could pencil you in for some alone time later, if you want."

I glowered up at him, stepping back from his warm body.

"Over my dead body," I snapped, crossing my arms defiantly.

Of all the patients they could've stuck me with, they gave me this sociopathic idiot.
