The Kid in the Back

BBQ

It was now the morning of the barbecue, and everyone was up early helping prepare besides Saxon who had stayed up til 4am texting Leslie. The barbecue was due to start at 3:00 pm, and by the time Saxon had woken it was 2:00 pm. Not knowing there was a Barbecue planned, he walked downstairs to find the house completely cleaned, Malia cooking, Alex cleaning the back porch and the kids watching tv, wondering why all this was going on? Then that's when Alex returned inside to spot his eldest son, finally awake.
Alex-" It's about time you woke up, cause we need your help."
Saxon-"Need my help with what?Whats going on?"
Alex-" I thought we told you?"
Saxon-"You guys didn't tell me anything?!"
Alex-"Well we're having a barbecue today, with my cast members and some neighbors."
Saxon-"Well, I have plans so..."
Alex-"Doing what?"
Saxon-"Me and Leslie were gonna hang today."
Alex-"No your not?!"
Saxon-"Why?!"(he asked very irritated)
Alex-"These are our plans! Now I'm sorry if you didn't get informed about them, but their still happening and your gonna be here whether you like it or not!"
Saxon-"but......"
Alex-"No buts that's it!"(he interrupted)
Saxon-"Are you trying to ruin my relationship with my girlfriend?!"
Alex-"No and I said I'm sorry but that's just how it is buddy?"
Saxon-"Ya,Sure.Whatever you say 'Daddy'!"(he sarcastically said)
And with that he marched back up to his room to get dressed.
After their conversation Alex was lost as of what to do? So he turned to his wife Malia who was in the kitchen.
Alex-"Do I ever do anything right?"
Malia-"Of course you do!"
Alex-"Then how come I feel like he hates me all the time?"
Malia-"He's growing up and feels like he should make his own decisions, and you just have to let him."
Alex-"He's old enough to make some decisions for himself but that doesn't mean he's mature enough to."
Malia-"Well, when you told him his plans with Leslie were canceled he seemed pretty upset. Maybe you should invite her to the barbecue and surprise him?"
Alex-"Okay, we can do that.You have her number so could you contact her please?"
Malia-"Of course."
Alex-"Thanks Sweetie. Do you need any help in the kitchen?"
Malia-"No, I think I'm fine. Why don't you go get ready?"
Alex-"What about you?"
Malia-"I already have my suit on."
Alex-"Okay then."( he said as he leaned over the counter to kiss his wife)
Alex headed upstairs to get dressed but stopped when he reached Saxons open bedroom door.
He saw Saxon sitting at his desk, watching videos on his computer when he decided to quietly knock.
As Saxon turned to face the door:
Saxon-"What?"
Alex-"People are gonna be here anytime, so you might wanna get dressed?"
Saxon-"Yeah and I will, but not with you standing right there!"
Alex-"Hey! Calm down, I was just reminding you."
Saxon-"Okay? Can you go now, and shut the door on your way out?"
Alex-"Yes, I'll leave."
Saxon-"Thanks."
Alex shut the door and went to get dressed. By the time Alex had gotten downstairs almost everyone had shown up. Scott, Grace, Daniel and their dates were all there. The only people they were waiting for were the neighbors, who had a daughter Saxons age. Their daughter also had alittle crush on Saxon and he knew it, but didn't like it.
Approaching the crowd of people in the backyard:
Alex-"Hey guys!"
Everyone-"Hey!"
Alex-"Nice to see you all."
Scott-"Ya, it's really nice to see your family to. The little ones are really growing up."
Alex-"Ya, but they sure are a handful."
Scott-"I can imagine."
Daniel-"So is the food ready?"
Alex just stared at Daniel in question?
Daniel-"I'm only kidding!" (He chuckled)
Alex-"Hahaha of course."
Grace-"So? I thought you had 3 kids?"
Alex-"Oh I do, the eldest just isn't down yet."
Grace-"Oh okay, and how old is he?"
Alex-"17."
Grace-"Wow! Your gonna have another adult in the house next year. Wonder how that's gonna feel?"
Alex-"No different hopefully. I don't want him to get to full of himself."
Grace-" Ya, that's happened to a lot of kids these days."
Alex-" I know which is why I'm not letting it happen."
Grace-"hmmmmmm. Determined, I like it."
Alex just chuckled.
A couple moments later, Saxon emerged from the house with a non appropriate outfit on for the party, that made everyone stare.
He was wearing tan colored joggers, a white bro tank, red high top vans, and a red flat bill hat.
As everyone stared at him, he just stared at his phone and ignoring everyone, walked to the end of the beach.
Meanwhile, back at the Patio:
Alex turned to everyone and said:
Alex-"Well that's my son for you guys."
Grace-"Haha, teenagers will be teenagers."(she chuckled)
It was only moments later when the neighbors arrived. They weren't a big family, just a couple with a lovely daughter.
Neighbor(dad)-"Hey Alex!"(he said as he politely approached Alex and shook his hand)
Alex-"Hey! Thanks so much for coming, I'm glad you could make it!"(he said releasing their hands)
Neighbor(Dad)-"Well thanks for the invite!"
Alex-"Of course! And may I say you girls are looking beautiful tonight!"(he said looking toward both the girls)
Neighbor(mom)-"Thank you Alex!"(she  said as she leaned in for a hug)
Returning from the hug:
Neighbor(mom)-"Sweetie, what do you say to Saxons dad?"(she asked looking toward her daughter)
Neighbor(daughter)-"Ya,sorry. Thank you for inviting us."
Alex-"Your welcome......Saxon is standing right over there if you want to go see him, but warning he's not in the best mood today."(he said as he nodded toward Saxon)
Neighbor(daughter)-"Okay, I'll go see if I can cheer him up."(she replied as she headed down the beach)
As she approached Saxon:
Saxon-"Please go away!"
Neighbor(daughter)-"It's just me?"
Saxon-"Oh." (He sighed)
Neighbor(daughter)-"So your dad said you were upset, anything you wanna talk about?"
Saxon-"No?!" (He answered annoyingly)
Neighbor(daughter)-"Ok."
There was a long moment of silence, until she finally couldn't take it anymore! She quickly grabbed Saxons hat and started running the opposite way!
Saxon-"Stop!Ok! Can I just have my hat back?!"(he asked as he quickly turned toward her)
Neighbor(daughter)-"Sure, you can have it back,if you can catch me!"(she said as she ran alittle further)
Saxon-"Fine then! I see how it is!"(he replied, starting to run for her)
As Saxon ran around chasing her, everyone else watched.
It took a while but Saxon finally cornered her.
Saxon-"Where u gonna go now?"
She quickly tried to run pass him but he stopped her.
When he tried to reach for the hat, she pulled away.
Saxon-"Seriously?!"
He had had enough! Saxon bent over and picked her up from her waist, walking toward the water.
Neighbor(daughter)-"No please don't! Put me down!"(she begged)
Saxon-"Why? You don't want to go for a swim?"
Neighbor(daughter)-"No please don't! I'll give you your hat back, I Promise!"(she pleaded)
Saxon-"Fine!"
Saxon started to walk her back toward the shore when he tripped on a rock and fell right on top of her. Luckily he was holding her so she didn't hit hard.
After they fell, there was nothing but silence, until she leaned up, kissed Saxon and he kissed back!
Once their lips separated, Saxon looked up to find everyone staring at them, including Leslie!
Saxon quickly grabbed his hat and stood to his feet.
Saxon-"Leslie?!"(he said slowly walking toward her)
Leslie-"I Knew it!"(she claimed as she stormed into the house)
It didn't take long for Saxon to run after her, and eventually catch up to her.
As he approached Leslie he grabbed the back of her arm and pulled her back.
Leslie quickly pulled back.
Leslie-"Let Go!"
Saxon-"Can you just let me explain?!"
Leslie-"There's nothing for you to say! I saw the whole thing!"
Saxon-"Well it wasn't what it looked like!"
Leslie-"I'm sorry Saxon. But it's so hard to trust you. We're done!"
Saxon-"Please don't do this?!"(he begged)
Leslie-"I'm sorry!"(she said as her eyes started to water)
Leslie ran passed Saxon, out of the house, tears running down her cheeks.
Saxon just stood in shock.
Malia who was in the kitchen the whole time, could only try to comfort Saxon.
Malia-"Saxon? Are you okay sweetie?"
He didn't answer. He just adjusted his hat and stormed outside toward Alex.
Alex-"Hey, How's a going buddy?"
Saxon-"It's all your fault!"(he shouted, shoving Alex)
Saxon-"She's never gonna love me again!"(he shouted, as he shoved Alex again)
Saxon-"It's all your fault!"(he shouted, and as he went to shove Alex, Alex quickly maneuvered, and pulled Saxon into a headlock)
As Saxon struggled to get out of the headlock:
Alex-"It's not my fault your girlfriend dumped you for being stupid! If your head wasn't up your ass all the time maybe things wouldn't have been like this!"(he stated, releasing and throwing Saxon to the ground)
After hearing what his father had to say, Saxon could no longer hold in his emotions.
Lifting his head, you could see tears start to run down his cheeks and standing up, you could see Him and his fathers eyes meet.
Saxon-"Yeah! But maybe if I had a father who actually gave a damn, I wouldn't be such an ass!"
And with that Saxon ran out of the house, making sure to grab his skateboard on the way out.
