My mum used to tell me to do these weird breathing exercises when I was scared, so that was what I did when I walked shakily over towards Jake. Except, this time it sounded like a dying horse.
"Please don't... Kill me." I said with a slight tremor in my voice. I honestly still couldn't take in the enormity of this whole situation, that I was actually not human.
Hurt flashed through Jake's eyes quickly. "I won't kill you." He said shortly, glancing over at Forrest.
"Oh. Good." I breathed in relief. "Forrest, can you take me home?" I hadn't brought my motorbike, and I really didn't want to walk the two miles home. As it was pretty clear, I hated sports. Pretty much anything that involved moving.
"Ye-" Forrest began.
"No. I'll take you." Jake snapped, glaring once again at Forrest. Instantly Forrest looked away in submissal and nudged me.
"You don't even know where I live!" I threw my hands up in the air with exasperation. Honestly, what was with this guy?
"I'll take you, if you tell me."
"Go with him, Ange. Seriously. Don't argue with an Alpha." Forrest hissed. I rolled my eyes, but nodded and threw an impatient look at Mr. No Taste.
"Okay, you better get me home quick cause I'm in no mood for slow pokes. 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney." I grinned. Jake's mouth twitched at the edges; I could see he was trying not to laugh.
"Okay, fine." I said when Forrest poked me in the back- more like stabbed me. "9 Maple Drive." I said, waving at my best friend and marching out with Jake, the oh-so-high-and-mighty-Alpha.
Little did I know how much power he really held.
"I'm going to have to take my clothes off when we're in the forest." Jake explained calmly. He hadn't stopped gazing at me the entire time we'd walked out, which was sort of scaring me but somehow it was alright.
"What?!" I snapped. "Why?!"
"Because I'm going to shift?" Jake chuckled, a husky sound that ran up my spine like shivers.
"Shift...." I trailed.
"Into a wolf."
"Oh... Yeah..." I gulped. Wow. He was going to turn into a bloody wolf. Those things could massacre 500 people in like ten minutes!
"So. Unless you wanna get it on," He winked, "Which I wouldn't mind at all, you should look away."
"Yeah, no thanks." I blushed furiously, turning away quickly before I saw anything unwanted. There was a rustling sound, some snaps, and then... A bark. I swivelled around and right there, before my eyes, stood an enormous wolf, the biggest, most powerful animal I'd ever seen, right in front of me. It towered above me, looming, it's beautiful golden fur shining in the sunlight. He was gorgeous.
"Wow..." I breathed, reaching forward and running my hand through the surprisingly soft fur. He shivered and then motioned for me to get on his back. Wait, get on his back? Was I really about to get on a bloodthirsty wolf's back like he was some kind of cute little pony. Right, yeah. I was.
Without further ado I pulled myself up and Jake began running, paws barely making a sound on the leaf covered ground. The world flashed by, almost too quickly, wind streaming through my hair and making my eyes water. It was utterly unreal, something that I never thought could happen in my wildest dreams, yet here it was, seeming like a sort of crazy fairytale.
Jake barked, almost before we had even begun. Through the bushes, I saw my good old home standing sturdily over the street.
"But- th-that was so fast!" I stammered, sliding off cautiously. Jake suddenly shifted back and I squealed, averting my gaze faster than you could say "supercalifragalisticexpialidocious".
