Every single bit of breath flooded out of me, leaving me choking for air.

Forrest?

FORREST?!

He couldn't have. He was my best friend, not a murderer. He told me everything. He couldn't have.

And then, just like that, I slid to the ground and everything turned a comfortable deep shade of black.

"Wake up, Angel." A panicked voice was saying. Something was squeezing my hand, almost painfully.

I let my eyes flutter open, slowly, and focused on the person next to me.

"Angel?" I recognized it as Jake.

Jake...

Jake... Oh right, Mr. Alpha Wolf.

"Dude, you might as well give up for now." Dagger's familiar, creaky voice sighed.

"SHUT UP! I AM NOT FUCKING GIVING UP. GO THE FUCK AWAY!" Jake growled furiously, shaking slightly.

"Fine." Dagger snapped back and footsteps resounded.

"Jake." I managed to murmur. Before I could blink Jake had me in his arms, practically shaking with relief.

"God, Angel. Don't faint like that again." He whispered, not letting go at all.

"Sorry." I said, pulling back.

Then I noticed what I was wearing. A shirt. A guy's shirt.

"It's mine. Don't worry, nothing happened." Jake smirked right at me, his eyes flicking down to look at my bare legs.

"God dammit." He muttered and looked away.

"What?" I asked innocently.

"Shut up." Jake chuckled, "What about this?" And he raised the shirt he was wearing currently, grinning. I made sure to keep myself from staring.

"I've seen better." I shrugged, playfully. Jake growled playfully.

Then I remembered.

I remembered that Forrest, my best friend, was a ruthless killer. I remembered that we had trusted each other, I remembered the innocence in his eyes as he told me about Jake, I remembered that I had had faith in him.

It all shattered.

Fresh tears welled up in my eyes, the horrible betrayed feeling filling the pit of my stomach.

"I can't believe he did that." I choked out, my breaths coming in short rasps.

"Oh, Ange. Damn it, I shouldn't have told you." Jake seemed scold himself.

The bed shifted as he wrapped an arm around me, sort of tensely though.

"I just... I trusted him... Are you- sure that's what happened?" My voice wavered. Maybe Forrest was innocent.

Jake growled lowly, gripping my shoulder harder.

"Yes. I saw him." He snapped.

"Oh." I whispered. All I could do was sit there helplessly while Jake shook silently with anger.

"I'm sorry I brought it up." I said quickly- there was something about Jake that made my usual, tough self go weak at the knees, apologize.

"No! Why would you say sorry to me?!! It's all my fault for telling you. I wouldn't have put you in so much danger. And it's Forrest's fault for making you trust him." Jake replied at once.
