Chaper 1: A Reaping to Remeber.

I stared upon him as he stood in silence looking into the distance. His bleach blonde hair flopped on his head just the right way. I liked him so much but he didn’t even know me but I knew him so well. Peeta Mellark the baker from down the street, district 12, Panem. He was good looking! Suddenly breaking through my fantasy was a voice yelling;

“Grace, GRACE”

“What!” I turned and screached at the unidentified person yelling my name. fortunately it was only my friend Mia and not some peace keeper telling that i was the first tribute to be called.

“Hey” She said

“Hi” I repiled, sternly.

“The reaping is about to start” She said looking at me.

“No shit”

She scowled at me and wondered off back to her sister. I swiftly turned back round to Peeta, I tried making I eye contact but it was impossible he was to busy day dreaming himself.

BOOM BOOM!!

Effie Trinket smacked her hand on the microphone making us all wince. I unblocked my ears and turned back towards the stage. Effie’s high heels and her wig made her look like a clown. She began introducing herself and played us a video from the Capital (the leaders of Panem, the ones that made us so poor). She finished the video and annouced that she was to call the male tribute out first. She stuck her long, bony hand into the oval jar of tribute names. I staring into the clouds again, day dreaming about me and Peeta, him and me.

“Peeta Mellark” Effie screeched into the microphone.

Hold on a minute this can’t be right. She said it again:

“Peeta Mellark please step forward”

No no no no, thoughts buzzing through my mind. This can’t be happening this like hell on earth. Tears were now stinging my misty grey eyes but I had to hold back no could know I had a secret crush on him. I wanted to scream and run up on stage. I wanted to demand a re-draw, this is so not fair! Peeta slowing slumped up the old wooden steps, trying to keep himself calm. Looking out to the crowd, praying for a volunteer. Nobody stepped forward so he slowly strided over to Effie. She smiled then turned back to the district.

“Now for the girls” Effie annouced.

I could see Peeta shaking, knees knocking, eyes watering. Thats when I decided I have to volunteer. I would do litterally anything to get that boy to notice me. Effie annouced the second name;

“Primrose Everdeen”

I glanced around to trying to spot her. When I finally did she was stiffly walking towards Effie when her sister Katniss came out of the crowd and screamed for Prim.

“PRIM, PRIM NOOOOO”

I looked at her, seeing such emotion from Katniss is rare. She sprinted through the peace keepers, smacking a few in the head. They finally yanked her arm and locked her in place. She squirmed still screaming for her sister. They held her in place before she spontaneously shouted;

“I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute!”

The crowd turned and gasped as she shoved through the peace keepers, towards her sister. Katniss craddled Prim in her arms, tears pouring from both faces. Finally Katniss let go and walked up to Effie. The reaping finished in silence everyone was filled with emotion. The last I saw of Peeta was seeing him wonder through the big, black iron gate at the back of the stage.
