"I told you, a kid at school called Charlie a name! That's all!" I told Ryan this about twenty-five times, but he refuses to listen saying I'm lying.
"why would he tell you and not me or my mom?"
"Because he didn't want you guys to worry. He just wants you guys to be happy. He knew your mom would freak out and you would get upset, so he asked me not to tell you guys. And since he is technically one of my bosses I do have to listen to him." I grinned at him
He stared at me trying to get me to crack and tell him the truth, but he simply shrugged and said "Fine, okay, but I won't tell my mom.. But please if he says anything, tell me. I've been with him everyday since he was two. I really do love him" he sighed
"Okay.. okay I will" but I knew I couldn't because this bully was fake and the real reason is hard to tell someone, especially his brother.
"Thanks" he smiled
"Yup.. uh I should get going." It was already almost ten o'clock and I still had three loads of landry to do.
He nodded and walked off. I leaned against the counter and and took a deep breath. I knew if Ryan found out I would be dead. I needed to tell him, but I couldn't let him tell his mother. I didn't know what to do. Both ways someone would get hurt.
---
I woke up the next morning and could barely get up. I didn't make it to bed until one in the morning and I had to wake up early to make breakfast.
The kitchen was silent. Last night felt so distant, it felt like I had worked here for weeks, instead of one day.
I made some pancakes and went to go wake everyone up, which was embarrassing because I felt like i was the mom, instead of the maid.
"Charlie?" I knocked on the door. I walked in, but the bed was empty. "Charlie..?" I looked in the closet and under the bed, until I saw a small blob in the corner. I shook it "Charlie?"
"Morning Stephanie!" he jumped out.
"Why are you sleeping in the corner?" I laughed
"I was going to try to scare you but I uh fell asleep." he laughed nervously
"Look Charlie can I talk to you?"
"Yeah sure!" He jumped up on his bed "What do you want to talk about?" He seemed so innocent, so happy and I didn't know how Mr. Winchester could look him in the eyes and hit him. Leave him with scars and bruises.
"I really think you should tell Ryan. Or let me tell him. I'll convince him not to tell your mom.."
He turned white. "Ryan would hurt dad. And Ryan would be hurt. I don't know if I can do that to him. We may not be related by blood but he's definitely my brother."
"What if I can convince him not to hurt your dad. What about that?"
"Okay fine." he smiled "thanks"
He sounded unsure but I was certain this was the right thing to do.
"Breakfast is downstairs, by the way."
"What did you make?"
"Uh pancakes?"
"I. LOVE. PANCAKES. Mom never makes them!!" He yelped. Then he took off to get the first dibs on the pancakes.
I decided to knock on Ryan's door just incase he was doing something that I really didn't want to see.
"Ryan?" I knocked. I got no response so I decided to just walk in. I opened the door slowly, just to see if anyone would try and shut it, but no one did. He was passed out on his bed, arm slung over the side, snoring loudly. I actually laughed at the sight of him, but contained myself and shook his arm
