The first person I saw was the younger boy. He was looking down at something and when I knew it would take him a while to notice me, I coughed a little to get his attention. We kind of just stood there staring at each other. I noticed how clean he was now that I was closer to him. They must have found running water somewhere. After about twenty seconds of just staring at each other Jason calls "Jack get over here. I told you to always stay near me!" Jack slowly turns his head and looks at Jason but says nothing. I hear footsteps coming and hear Jason say "What the hell has gotten into you lets-" He stops talking when he sees me.

"Umm Terry?" Jason calls.

"What? Is there a corpse in here?" She asks not thrilled.

"No.. Uh just come here..." He says slowly like I'm some sort of wild animal that he doesn't want to scare off.

Terry comes bounding over and then sees me.

"Oh uh hey," she says to me. I wave and she slaps Jason in the stomach and says "She's a person guys you don't need to act so weird! I know it's been a long time since you've seen another girl beside me but, come on."

She walks over to me and puts her hand out for me to shake. We shake hands and she asks me what my name is. I quietly say "Ember." She smiles and asks if I'm all alone. I nod my head and she invites me to go with them.

"Well I mean I guess it's better than being all alone," I say gaining more confidence. She claps her hands and lets out a little shriek and hugs me. "Yay! I won't be the only girl anymore! We live in an old wear house with a bunch of boys," she explains.

I nod and all of the sudden the boys gasp and point at something behind us. We slowly turn around to see a group of five groaners at the door starting to bang on the glass. They catch the attention of more and all of the sudden the sunlight is blocked out by all of them standing outside the door. The glass starts to crack and we run. I've been around the store a million times so I know of a way to get to the roof. I yell at them to follow me and we sprint to the door and close it just in time to hear the glass break. We quietly run up the stairs hoping not to bring their attention to that door.

As we are running up the stairs I remember going to the roof and seeing a couple groaners up there. Hopefully they are good with their knives because I don't know how many I can take on my own.

We burst through the roof door and right away I can see seven groaners look at us and shuffle towards us. "Shove them off the sides!" I order and they listen. We start pushing them off the sides of the roof. I push three off myself, Terry and Jack each push one, and Jason pushes two.

After we look around to make sure there are no more groaners, we fall to the ground tired and start laughing. It was actually kind of fun to do that with other people. I look over at Terry and she laughing but also holding her ankle. "Are you okay?" I say concerned. "Oh yeah I'm fine, I just twisted it a little. It will be fine in like five minutes." She says still chuckling.

I turn around to see Jason leaning over the roof looking at the groaners we just pushed off. Then I see Jack with his ear up to the door we came through. I quietly tell still laughing Terry to be quiet. "Do you hear something?" I ask Jack a little nervously. He nods and slowly backs away from the door.

I get up and pick up a metal pole that was lying on the ground. I wedge it in between the door handles and now I can hear them. The groans and shuffling. They are coming, not very fast but they are. We have to make a plan to get out of here because there are a lot of them.

Jason points to a fenced off area that has a big trash bin in it. He walks over and jumps down onto the trash barrel. He motions for the second person to go down. Jack jumps down, then Terry, and then it's my turn. I'm not used to doing this kind of stuff. I'm very clumsy and this is a pretty high up place to jump from, then land on a two-foot wide thing that could easily be tipped over. I'm not sure that I can do it.

They are all anxiously looking at me and the groaners have started banging on the door. I look back to see that the handles are ready to break. I stand there frozen and I wonder if they will leave me here. Jason and I make eye contact and he holds his hands out. There are loud noises coming from behind me and I know the door will break any minute so I close my eyes and jump. I land on the trash barrel and jump off of that, onto the fence, and start scaling it. "Come on guys the-" before I could finish I hear the door handles break and the moaners making their way over to the edge of the roof.

We all start climbing the fence and the moaners are falling off the edges to get to us. After we all jump down the other side of the fence they start running down the street and I follow.

We eventually reach a huge warehouse that still looks really strong and very stable. Jason opens the door and shoves us all in. Terry looks at me and says "Welcome to your new home Ember!"
