Chapter 1

Blueberries.

Raspberries, strawberries.

Herbs, potatoes, lettuce.

I lifted my gaze.

Apples, corn stalks, and pears.

I blinked twice, the vision disappearing. Turning my head, I looked at Pride. He stood, head held high, tall and faithful. I slipped off his back, headed towards the stables. My boots crunched on the ground overridden by the storm. The storm we had to hide underground from, just to survive. And as a result, only my brother, Pride, and I made it. Out of the whole world I knew, only us, no one else survived. Pride followed eagerly towards the stables, as it was where he had lived before . The stables were a complete mess of chaos and I couldn’t find our other animals. After inspecting a little more, Pride and I went over to the small, caved in, shack. For 15 years it had served my family as our house, protecting us, until the storm came. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move inside the house, I clutched Prides reigns. Slowly, through the broken window, the muzzle of a gun appeared and slowly I backed away from the shack. Then I spun around, jumped on Prides back, and galloped away, fast, with the wind blowing my long brown hair.

I had to tell my brother that other people still lived.
