I couldn't believe it... I couldn't believe he insulted me like that! I was dumbfounded, angry and... Curious. It was like he saw right through me... But I had checked in the mirror, no human could see my horns.
Second period and so far no run-ins to mister rude. I was so used to having to be have a certain way for my mother... Here at school I forgot everything. Here with Jennifer in math I listened to the best gossip ever.
I glanced at her as something was said about the new boy. "I heard he moved in not too far from my favorite girl and she has been neglecting to give me details." She grinned with braced, but white, teeth. "Spill yo' guts, bitch." She laughed.
"He's super hot." I say with my usual mischievous grin. I don't mention he didn't even look at me twice when he refused my charm... Maybe I wasn't meant to be Lust after all.
Lust was supposed to make you knees turn to jelly, your mind turn to ash. He/she was supposed to turn into your dream and make it so you never thought of anything but them. I was close, but if I couldn't charm this boy, I most certainly couldn't be lust.
The choosing of those who represent the seven deadly sins would be two years from now, and it was unheard of for a half demon to ever even rank. That was my mother's dream, for me to be the first half demon to ever be the new face of a deadly sin. I couldn't be sloth, I loved being active. I couldn't be wrath, I wasn't an angry or violent person usually. I couldn't be envy, no one was jealous or envious of me. I couldn't be gluttony, I didn't like to over indulge. I couldn't be greed, I am not a greedy person. I couldn't be pride, I take pride in how I look, but not who I am. That only left lust. And this boy was so close to ruining that dream.
"Hello?" Jennifer waved her hand in front of my face. "Earth to Carly? You in there?" She asked.
I snapped back to reality. "Sorry. I... I uh..." I blinked. I had to think of something fast. "You remember that competition my mom's been training me for all my life?" Jenny nodded. "I have two years."
She squealed in delight. "That's awesome, Carls!" Jennifer gave me the biggest hug. I smiled and hugged her.
"Yeah, I'll see if I can get pictures." I told her and she smiled.
And then that stupid boy showed up. He strode into the middle of the class where the substitute teacher was sitting, helping someone, handed him a note, and was motioned to sit on the opposite side of me.
Oh how I wanted to just die. He stared at me, it seemed like he was looking at my horns. I reached up and touched my hair. "Are you looking at something?" I asked, my tone came out softer then I meant.
"Oh, you're being nice now?" He snorted as he sat down.
Jennifer was silent for awhile. When she finally spoke, it was slow, even, like she was testing the waters. "Alexander, this is Carly." So they knew each other. And that was his name. It fit him.
He laughed. "Carly, Carly Maria Fellows," he laughed. "This... Rude little child is your 'totally hot friend' that you were 'dying for me to meet'?"
I turned away from him, blood rose to my cheeks. I chewed on my lip and turned towards him again. "Every other guy would drop to have me," I began, "even Harold." I smirked. "Especially Harold."
Alexander rolled his eyes. "Please, that boy hates you." He told me. He looked at the worksheet being handed out and started working on it.
Jennifer let us have our quarrel, she then moved nearer to Alex. "Harold is such a wannabe though, everyone knows he has a bet with his buddies that by the end of the year he can get in her pants." She told him.
