Arabella Daniels watched as the clock ticked. She watched as the long hand moved smoothly around and around. She sat still in the luxurious mansion, that was her home and watched as the hours passed.
"Miss Bella?" was asked hesitantly from behind. I jumped slightly turning around to see Maria standing there, twisting her apron between her fingers. Maria was one of my maids and a new addition that still insisted on calling me Miss despite my continous pleads. She was a tiny woman of spanish descent, about 30 with a small boy named Peter. She was in charge of cleaning and making sure my needs were catered to, so she was the last of the staff to leave, after the cook had made dinner, the gardener had done his job and my tutor had left me alone.
"Yes Maria?" I smiled gently ignoring the hollow feeling in my stomach.
"Im heading out now Miss, i was wondering if you needed anything?" She was looking at me sadly, obviously thinking the same thing as me. My parents hadn't called. It was my birthday and they had forgotten. I mean it wasn't unusual that i hadnt heard from them for a while they were both very busy. My mum is a famous fashion designer and Dad the owner of the Daniels Law firm, the most prominent Law company in the world. I went months without talking to them, only aware of their presence in the hiring of new staff, clipped emails on my school progress or occasional phone calls allerting me to a relocation to a new country. But despite this i thought that my birthday would be different, even just a phone call, a text.
"Im fine thankyou, have a lovely evening" I gave her a small smile and turned back around to the clock before striding back to my room. Ignoring her stare of pity.
Closing my door i stared at my room. It was a huge suite with a king bed, with a massive duvet and too many pillows to count. Cream carpets led from the bed to a lounge area with a large flat screen TV. Past this was my ensuite bathroom with a spa, shower and huge marble counters. The entire wall to the right of my bed were closets full with enough clothes for a small country. My mums latest designs and anything i wanted. At first glances it looked luxurious, elegant and you could see the stylish design of the interior decorator. However if you looked hard you could see my tattered books on my bedside table, Mr Snuggle my Teddy who went wherever i did and certificates of appreciation for charitable donations.
My sigh was loud in the silence, and i felt comletly and utterly alone. Going straight to my bed, i snuggled in, hoping tommorow would be better.
