"She did?" Sophia asked in disbelief after Mason told her the situation he found himself in.

After the failed effort on lunch, Mason drove down to her place and marched through her door. He didn't even try to sugarcoat anything, he just said it as bluntly as anyone could.

"What are you going to do?" Sophia asked a very confused Mason.

"I don't know. I don't want to lose any of you, but-" His reason was cut as Sophia did something she didn't want to do.

"Choose her, Mason."

Mason looked at her as if she had grown another head. Sophia was fulfilling that stupid saying of setting something free if you love it as much as you think you do.

"What are you saying?" Mason's throat closed up and resulted into a very strangled voice.

"I'm saying that I'm just your friend, but she could possibly be your future. You could have a family with her, and be happy. And even if it didn't work out, I'll always be here for you." Her eyes were turning glassy, but she chose to blink the painful tears away.

"But I don't wanna lose you either." Mason sat down on her sofa.

"But I don't want you to regret anything. I'll always be here for you, even when you don't know it." Sophia reached out and landed her palm on his hand in memory of what could be their last conversation in a long time.

"You should probably go. It's getting late, and I'm gonna go to bed." Sophia lied as she attempted to lift away some of the pain on her heart.

But before Mason went out the door, he made sure to give Sophia a hug.

Sophia knew what she needed, and that was girl time. She grabbed her phone and called her through speed dial.

"Jessica?" She said in a defeated tone.

"What happened?" The absence of a sarcastic comment made her realize how serious her situation was.

"Mason happened.'

The next hour was composed of the story and Jessica's comments. She was just spread across her queen sized bed in a starfish position that lost an arm because said arm was holding her phone to her ear.

"I told him to choose her." She said, eliminating all emotions all together because it would be too much to bare if she didn't.

"You what?" Jessica shrieked.

"He deserves to be happy." Jessica sighed.

"And you deserve to stop thinking about others and start thinking of your own happiness for once." Jessica explained, and Sophia knew it was true. She knew what it felt like to feel like total crap, and she never wanted anyone to feel the way she did.

"But he might be happier with her, you know?" Sophia was coming up with any excuse to make her think that she made the right decision to set him free to love.

"Yeah, because anyone would choose that insane witch bitch over a sweet and loving, kind hearted girl. Because that makes sense." Sophia appreciated her sarcasm because it actually made her laugh for once.

"I gotta go, Sophia. Go and get some sleep. You deserve it." Sophia got curious as to why her voice sounded like she was in a hurry.

Jessica was livid right now.

"That idiot is so shallow." She growled as she got her coat from the coat stand and headed out.

"I'm going out, Blake." A nod of acknowledgement was heard, and she shoved her key in the ignition.

She had a mission. Her eyes were on one thing, and that was to murder that love sick fool.

"Mason, open up. You are so a dead man." Jessica as she shouted at the top of her lungs while her clenched fist was banging on the door.

"Gosh, Jessica. Are you planning to break my door down?" He said as he opened the door enough for her to push herself through but not without intentionally bumping his shoulders.

"What the fuck is with you today?" He sounded really fed up, but not as much as she was.

"You would pick Claire over Sophia? You've only known her for like a month, and you would choose her over someone you've known since high school? Are you mental?" She emphasized her point with by thrusting her finger on the side of her head.

"I'll have you know that she wanted me to choose Claire." Mason was so confident that a few ounces of cockiness seeped through his voice.

"Are you just stupid, or did your mom drop you when you were a baby? She obviously didn't want you to, you utter moron." Jessica couldn't contain her rage anymore and she was going all out.

"If she felt like that, she would have told me." Mason explained.

"It's could reading between the lines. Gosh, they weren't kidding when they said that boys were totally clueless." Jessica raged.

"Wait, she told you that?" Mason sounded guilty, and he had all right to.

"Yeah, genius. She was upset. I thought that you would know her more than anyone to know that she puts others first before herself because she has a pure heart, unlike that whore you call your girlfriend." Jessica snarled.

"So she didn't want me to do it, but she thought that I'd be happier without her?" He clarified.

"Duh." She snapped.

"I screwed up didn't I?" Guilt was taking him over completely, and Jessica felt it.

"You did." She said. But instead of saying it in a harsh tone, she sat down beside him and said it in a comforting one.

Meanwhile, back at the condo of a frazzled Sophia Heatherson, she simply couldn't sleep.

No matter how many times she mumbled and grumbled and turned from side to side, she couldn't sleep. It was really frustrating her.

But she knew that her sleepless state wasn't the one causing it.

It was all because of Mason and how happier he might be with Claire instead of her. It hurt her, but it probably would be better if she knew that she made the right choice and that he was happier.

Everyone would say that Mason and her were like the perfect couple, but she could see his future with her and it was freaking bright.

I mean both of them were headed towards a master's degree in architecture, and both of them were like the perfect couple in their college, or so she has heard.

"I don't know." She shoved a pillow over her eyes because her head started throbbing when she tried to dig into it deeper.

She didn't know when, but she fell asleep.

short. i know :(
