—Truth or dare?
I hated that game. But then I looked at Erix and remembered that this game had led us to sit side by side, hands intertwined, resting on his thigh. We had already eaten dinner, and to break the ice, a student from another class decided to start this game.
—Truth—Hazel answered.
—Is it true that you only hang out with Zara for your money?—a boy asked. He was certainly trying to start a fight.
—Of course not!—Hazel frowned and shook her head.
Hazel spun the bottle. Finally, the green object landed on me and Diana. I smiled and looked at Erix. He nodded for me to continue with my plan.
ㅡTruth or dare?ㅡI raised and lowered my eyebrows, signaling how excited I was about this canonical event.
ㅡTruthㅡ she replied after thinking for a moment. I'm sure she knew about the dare I was going to propose.
ㅡIs it true that you like Chris?
Diana blushed in seconds, which made me chuckle softly.
ㅡN-noㅡshe stammered.
ㅡOoh, she stuttered!ㅡHarry, a boy from our class, teased Diana, and the rest of the group laughed. I could see Diana and Chris's discomfort with the situation, so I spun the bottle to change the subject.
To my surprise, the bottle landed on Erix and Chris.
It was Erix's turn to look at me. I nodded for him to proceed according to my plan. Our mission was to make them confess their hidden feelings.
ㅡTruth or dare?ㅡErix asked.
ㅡDare.
That's right, you're on the right track!
ㅡI dare you to...
ㅡTime to go to bed, everyoneㅡ Mr. Williams interrupted Erix, making me sigh.
He ruined our cupid operation.
We left the table and went to our cabins. But before I went into mine, I said goodbye to Erix with a tight hug and a quick kiss.
I took a deep breath as I entered the room. Zara was sitting on the bed, scrolling through her phone. A moisturizing mask covered her face, making her look like a ghost.
I went to brush my teeth and lay down on my bed, already going to sleep. But, to my dismay, Zara started singing out of nowhere, totally out of tune. Impatient, I turned to her and complained:
ㅡZara, my dear, nobody wants to hear your angelic voice, no.
She completely ignored me. I gave up and covered my head with the blanket, trying to muffle the sound of that raspy voice.
[...]
I woke up with sunbeams almost burning my skin. I looked at the balcony door—which was a few meters from my bed, next to it—and found Zara. She was holding a cup and looking at the backyard.
ㅡZara, what are you doing?ㅡI asked. I didn't know how she was enduring that hot light on her face.
ㅡPhotosynthesisㅡ she replied, without looking at me. But her answer wasn't ironic. It's as if she really believed that humans photosynthesize.
Unbelievable!
ㅡZara, you're not a plant! Close that curtain and stop messing around.
I got up and took a shower. That day had already started hot, so I put on some cool clothes and did a messy bun. When I finished fixing my hair, I heard my cell phone vibrate on the nightstand. I smiled when I read "Did you sleep well?" on the lock screen.
