Elm

Elm was running faster than she ever had before, choking on screams that wouldn't come out. The events of the last hour were blurred and faded in her mind, she couldn't seem to accept them. The only two things she could understand were this: One, her brother, mother and father were all dead. They had been attacked by a... Thing. A horrible, humanoid Thing, that had razor sharp teeth that were as blackened as charred wood, and had silvery eyes that were filled with intelligence and madness. Two, to avoid dying like the rest of her family, she had to do as her brother had told her. Run. Run as fast as she could, and get to civilisation. The only problem; In the dress she was currently wearing, running that fast was near impossible. She had ripped of the hem, in the  hope that she would be able to lengthen her strides, but no such luck. She tripped over a stone on the path and slipped on the algae and moss that covered the chalky ledge. Falling flat on her face, she heard a crack, and a sharp stinging pain from her nose. she stood up, black fog clouding her vision, and using the ripped hem of her dress, tried to stem the flow of blood emitting from her broken nose. Choking back a sob, Elm powered on. She had a splitting headache, and her hands and knees were scratched and bloodied. She then turned her attention back to staying alive. Elm couldn't hear the Thing, but she knew that if she hesitated, she would be it's new chew toy.

Suddenly, she felt a hand grab hold of her right arm, and yank her sideways, flinging her to the ground. She couldn't see clearly because of the throbbing  pain in her head, but she tried to bite and kick and scream and pull away from the steely grip, with no such luck. 'GET OFF OF ME!' She yelled. The hand let go, and her vision cleared. Lying beside Elm, was a boy about her age, sixteen. He had wavy blonde hair, that was dirtied and greyish, with Intense green eyes that were almost exactly the same colour as the moss covering the forest floor. He, Truthfully, was very handsome, with a broad chin and muscular arms, but he looked concerned. 'I'm sorry.' He said, with a soft, low voice that sent a tingle down Elm's spine 'I had to.'
'Are you out of your mind?' She whispered, her voice filled with fear 'Do you have any idea what you have done!?!' That's when she snapped. At first, she started to sob, and the boy looked stunned. He tried to rest his hand on her arm again, to comfort her. But she just jerked away, trembling. She attempted to stand up, but the black fog threatened to blind her completely, and the pain in her head became almost unbearable. A scream of frustration and fear ripped it's way out of her chest, scolding her throat and making her gasp. She dropped to the floor and moaned, a long, sorrowful sound that was filled with fear, and dread. The boy seemed tho think this called for desperate actions, so he put two strong hands on her hips, flung Elm over his left shoulder and she blacked out.
