Oscars POV
Elm knew enough already about us that I could shift in front of her without getting told off by the leader of our shifters camp, Kaiis. I carried my shoes to the edge of the clearing in the meadow, and dropped them on the ground. 'So.... Is that it?'
'Is that what?'
'That.'
'What?' Elm sighed and continued; 'You dropping your shoes on the floor. Is that as cool as it gets?'
'Oh. Wait. No! Ugh, Elm! Stop confusing me. I want you to see me shift.' Hah! The look on her face was priceless, pure shock. It then switched to excitement as she realised what was happening.
'Is that allowed? I mean, wouldn't you get told off or something?'
'Well, no. You already know enough that I can shift in front of you without getting told off.'
'Wow!' I smirked, and ran to the other edge of the clearing. 'Stay there! Don't move!' I shouted to her, and stood completely still, trying to contain my excitement. I closed my eyes, and took a deep breath. Woah. I got a strong whiff of jasmine and pineapple. Elm, her scent was incredible. I let the scent wash over me and opened my eyes. I felt stronger. Elm gasped as she saw the change of green to blue in my eyes, and I winced. She looked scared. Too scared. But it was too late to turn back now, I took a few steps forwards before breaking into a run, and just as Elm was turning to scramble away, I shifted into a silver and black streaked wolf with deep, blue eyes, and landed on-top-of her. She screamed and tried to hit me, I just growled, and without thinking, licked her face. The screaming stopped, and she started to laugh, but then the laughing turned into sounds of disgust. 'Ewwwww, Oscar! That's gross! I thought you said that wolves weren't like dogs! Ewwwwwwww! Get off of me!' I jumped off of her, and sat by her feet, cocking my head to one side as if to say well? What do you think?
'That was terrifying, hilarious and completely gross!' I put my head between my paws, and lay down on the ground. I knew it. I had gone way to far. Of course, I couldn't help the terrifying part, that was just there. the hilarious part, I'm not sure I could help that either. But gross? I never wanted to hear that word coming from Elms lips again. 'Gross, Oscar Boy, just gross.' I groaned and shifted back.
'Are you ok, Oscar?'
'Yes.'
'I'm covered in drool.'
'I know.'
'Your drool.' I groaned again, adding in a bit of a growl as if to tell her to stop rubbing it in. But I knew it wouldn't make any difference.
'Why do your eyes go blue?'
'That's the colour of my mates eyes.'
'Oh. You have a mate?' She sounded disappointed.
'No.'
'Oh!' My head snapped up. Elm's expression was one of pure hope, until she saw the hurt in mine, and it changed to pity, with a twinge of mild disappointment.
'How do you know what your mate looks like, then?' She asked, obviously extremely curious.
'I don't. All I know is that her eyes are blue and....' My voice faded away as I looked into Elms deep blue eyes. 'No.' My voice was just a whisper, barely audible. 'No way.' I stood up. 'Oscar Boy?' I started to walk away, dazed. Elms voice was becoming more distant as my vision clouded. 'Oscar?' I turned to face her. She looked worried. Then scared. Her eyes widened in horror as she realised what had happened. 'Oscar? What am I?' She asked. 'Human.' I replied, and walked slowly back to camp, my new mate trailing behind me.
