Oscars POV
I know I've already said it, but I'm sorry, I had to. The poor thing was in such bad shape that she would've wound up as that things next meal if I hadn't pulled her to back on to our territory. After I cleaned her up, I realised with a jolt that she was actually quite pretty. Not that it mattered of courses, but still. She slept for hours, moaning every now and then. Something about the '"beautiful moon", which made me smile. She woke up just as I returned from my shift on the outer borders of our territory. 'Who are you?' She asked. I could tell she was struggling to keep her voice level, and it still shook, so I tried to make myself look as un-threatening as possible.
Hunching my shoulders forward protectively, I started towards her. I knelt down on my right knee, about a meter away, and spoke in as much of a soothing voice as possible. 'My name is Oscar. You want to know what you were running from back there?' She nodded 'We don't know.' I answered simply, because it was true. None of the camp had any idea what had been chasing the poor girl. 'You don't know, huh? Well, explain to me how you knew to pull aside then.' Ah, a challenge, I like this one. 'This is my packs territory, our scent overrides yours.'
'Pack? Are you like, a werewolf or something?' A growl ripped through my throat. 'No! I am not a werewolf, as far as i know, werewolves don't even exist.'
'But then again, you also don't know what that thing is, so how can you be sure that you're not a werewolf?' I growled again, and the girl flinched. This wasn't good, she was testing my patience, and that was never good. 'Werewolves are humans that change into wolf-like creatures every full moon, and have no memory of who they are. I, however, can change into a wolf, at will, whenever I want, and still remember who I am. The same goes for my friends, my pack. Although my brother is the only other one of us that can change into a wolf.'
'How many pairs of clothes do you go through then?'
'What?'
'How many pairs of clothes do you go through? Like, when you transform into a wolf, do your clothes get ripped off?' I snarled at that. 'No! I don't know what you've been reading, but no! No! No!'
'Ok, ok! No need to get touchy!' I gave her one of my best zero tolerance looks, and stood up to go just as the conch horn sounded out in the meadow. A soft gust of wind blew in my direction and I tensed up. I could smell another Shifter coming towards the border-line, and I knew that if I left now, I would be able to stop them before they got too close. I turned around to face the girl, I had to do one last thing before I went. 'What's your name?'
'Elm.' She replied. 'Thank you Elm, just sit tight ok? I have to take care of a few things right now.' And with that, I slipped out of my shoes, and silently headed towards the Shifter on the border.
