"There," Tyler said. "With the flag out front. I remember it; that's Mike's house."
"Are you sure this time?" Graham said.
"Yes. Pull into the driveway; I'll text him."
"I'm not pulling in. I'd have to pull out and that will take too long."
I could hear Tyler tapping away on his phone; the screen reflected an eery blue on the windshield. A few moments later Mike was sliding into the seat next to mine.
"I want you all to know that this is still insane," Mike informed us. "The fact that I'm going along with it does not mean I think it's any less insane. And my mom thinks it's insane too- she's only letting me go because tomorrow is Saturday, and because I'm technically an adult, and because she really likes Alexa."
"My parents don't care what I do on the weekends," I replied. "So long as it doesn't involve drugs, or impregnating anyone. Perks of going away for school."
"Don't remind me," Mike grumbled. He went to the community college, and still lived at home.
"Someone fill Mike in on the plan," Graham said.
Tyler turned to face us. "We're gonna visit Alexa as soon as we can tomorrow morning."
"After that, things get unclear," I finished.
"And there you have it!" Graham exclaimed. "You're all caught up."
At 2:47, Graham pulled into the parking lot of St. Peter's Children's Hospital. We sat in the car and stared at the huge brick building.
"Well," Tyler said hoarsely. "She's in there."
"I wonder what visiting hours are," I said.
Graham propped his feet up on the dashboard and leaned his seat back. "We can ask tomorrow morning. For now, we should all get some sleep."
